@KitMaherCNN Africans already possessed the skills of blacksmithing having descended from societies that made tools, horseshoes for horses, and so much more.

DeSantis tells me FL's new Black history standards are "rooted in whatever is factual," when I asked him his thoughts on middle school instruction on "how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit" –

There's this notion that Kennedy's doing kinda well in the polls and he just isn't. Despite very high name ID and a weak field of alternatives to Biden. Look, talk about him if you want. It's summer, we're all a little bored. Personally, I'd rather talk about NBA trade rumors.
David Weigel@daveweigel

Kennedy's surging media exposure has actually hurt him in the primary - he's just taking positions (and talking to media) that Democrats don't like. Compare these numbers to the March numbers when St. Anselm tested better-known Ds against Biden. twitter.com/Politics_Polls…

@MJGold Correct. This is heartwarming but it doesn't advance the argument for taking the sport seriously. In fact this display hurts that argument.

This went viral and it’s a problem. Jolien Buomkwo is NOT the problem and deserves all the praise for what she did for her team! 👏🏾 Track rarely gets this type of media coverage outside the Olympics, but desperately needs it. Great track athletes break records and do amazing things in our sport displaying the superhuman and ultra competitive nature of the sport. We desperately want sports fans to see it and believe if they did they’d watch more, resulting in better TV coverage and more sponsors, which ultimately means true pro sport compensation and respect for struggling elite track athletes. The problem is despite the display of being a great team player, it showed the sport to the world as a cute laugh at best and reinforced what many already believe that it is an amateur Olympic sport, instead of showing it as elite athleticism and competitiveness. Despite what you might want to believe, it is the latter that draws fans, television rights deals, and sponsors. That isn’t an opinion. It is a proven fact. TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE: You can applaud and feel great about her effort and feel this being showed to the world was not helpful in the sport’s struggle to be seen as professional high level elite competition. One last time: THIS ISSUE IS ABOUT THE SPORT, NOT THE ATHLETE.

Belgium’s Anne Zagré was going to run the 100m hurdles, but got injured. Jolien Maliga Boumkwo, a shot putter, took her place to secure points for the Belgian team 🇧🇪🙌 (via @TopatletiekLive)

@FakeCynic @TreRighteous @jemelehill So you just wipe out the history of slavery in colonial america and start at 1776? Well if America had remained a colony of Britain slavery would have been abolished here decades before it was. So did independence make America less moral? What happened?

@NathanJRobinson Except that you don't win a debate with better information. A debate is won with better rhetorical form, and successful appeals to the right emotional triggers.

This is why I think the "don't debate them, it legitimizes them" take is totally misguided. When you don't debate them, they see it as proof that you're afraid of having a conversation and have something to hide. It would do far more good to go in and win the debate.
