Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold: Two kids. One rich. One poor. Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids. The rich kid has two choices. Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more. Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater. The poor kid has two choices too. Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been. Or outwork everyone in the room. Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch. Same choice for all of them. Ownership or victimhood. Fuel or excuse. The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it. The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it. Greatness doesn't come from where you start. D1 players don’t just need D1 talent. They need D1 parents and D1 support systems. The jump isn’t just faster football. It’s accountability, structure, communication, and emotional maturity. The players who survive and thrive usually have families who understand the grind, respect the process, and don’t panic when adversity hits. Talent opens the door. The support system builds the the foundation and can determine how long you stay!

We need JUCO football back in AZ.

I see the same coaching vacancies from the same schools every 2-3 years. It can't always be the coach.

Two teams that I saw.. That I felt like should have been in the playoffs were: @TTownFball (Tolleson) 5A Coach Wellbrock had this team absolutely rolling.. QB YoungMin Lee and WR Rico Blassingame were fun to keep up with this season.. RB Jimmy Guzman, WR Quentin Gavin and OL Josh Aguayo will return to build on this years success.. @TheRealMHSFB (Maryvale) 4A The Carters did what nobody’s been able to do since I started covering AZ HS football, and that’s create excitement and expectations at Maryvale.. WR Julien Alokpovi & RB Isaac Buchanan became players to watch with impressive off seasons.. Then once game 6 hit QB Messan Alokpovi, ATH Miles Woods put EVERYONE on notice!! Those two will be back with defensive athlete Kevin Smith.. And bigger expectations..
