Well surely that’s answering your own question? Why would we copy American comedy? What Americans find hilarious most Brits would probably find cringe with a rare few exceptions. The office was one of the biggest comedies of all time. Both written by Brits. You’re also wrong about the British version. Gervais etc favoured quality of quantity and it had reached its natural conclusion. Even the most successful golden globes host a Brit. Most others were boring until Gervais came in and rinsed everybody. There’s shows created by Brits were American would literally flabbergast themselves that it was allowed on TV, shows like Little Britain, Come Fly with Me, Inbetweeners etc.
