John Lennon and Elton John, 1974. This friendship led to one of rock's greatest moments. When they recorded "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night" together, Elton bet John that the song would hit #1. John was skeptical but agreed that if it did, he would join Elton on stage. The song topped the charts, and on Thanksgiving night, Lennon kept his promise, joining Elton at Madison Square Garden for what became his final major concert
