Dale Strong voted against the discharge petition that would have funded the Department of Homeland Security — Border Patrol, Coast Guard, Secret Service, all of it — except for ICE. Yesterday he held a press conference at a DC airport to talk about border security.

Your problems, not his. And we’re closing in on a year and a half since a real town hall. Representation requires real listening. To everyone. So, how is this impacting you?

What did you pay last time you filled up at the pump? Yesterday, I filled up my work truck at Costco, and it was $119.20. While Dale Strong plays politics, prices like this have become the new normal for working families. No real fight for relief. No urgency.

Crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma yesterday with hundreds from both near and far was an experience like none other. A powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and yet how far we have to go. Reverend Sharpton said “We are here not to commemorate, but to continue.”

Mary Binford, Ellen Brandon, India Herndon, Lou Bertha Johnson, Dora Lowery, and Celia Love made history through courage and persistence. A marker at Councill High Memorial Park now honors their legacy.

Alabama’s 1901 Constitution erected barriers like poll taxes and literacy tests to silence Black voters. In 1920, just six Black women in Madison County overcame those obstacles to register and vote.

He became a minister, helped desegregate Mobile’s buses, joined the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and in 1957 co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr. Lowery later led the SCLC for two decades and marched at Selma.

Have you ever been driving down Governor's Drive in Huntsville and wondered who Dr. Joseph E. Lowery Blvd was named after? Well, Joseph Lowery was born in Huntsville in 1921 and chose purpose over bitterness in the face of Jim Crow.
