The project also recovers the Black women authors Howe excluded. As project directors Katherine Adams and Jacquelyn Thoni Howard put it, "An ethical approach to recovery must reckon with the exclusion of Black women from the Beautiful Sisterhood of Books, not reify it."
It's showcase time again! This Beautiful Sisterhood of Books is a digital recreation of the Women’s Literary Department from the 1884 World’s Fair in New Orleans. The project recovers the curatorial work of Maud Howe and situates her collection in its historical context.
.@jenguiliano and I are excited to share the August issue of #ReviewsInDH, which is our first PARTNER issue! The projects featured in this issue come from the first showcase of our partner, the @awwrecoveryhub. We’re so happy to be working with them! reviewsindh.pubpub.org/v4-n8
As the reviewers sum up, "The Yellow Wall-Paper" Digital Edition "thus fills a gap and offers a straightforward, easily navigable interface that allows readers to explore two important versions of the story."

#InternationalWomensDay is also auspicious for launching "The Yellow Wall-Paper" Digital Edition showcase! As reviewers Nicole Gray & @JanaTigchelaar write, the project introduces students to both text & textual analysis in a way that is "compelling, unobtrusive, & informative."
We also do peer review and showcase of digital humanities projects, which helps make project contributions more legible to administrators, hiring committees, and others outside the field. We have calls twice a year, and the next is coming up in April.
Happy #InternationalWomensDay2023! We are honored to support scholars recovering the work of women writers by providing digital access to forgotten or neglected texts. If you're working in textual/cultural recovery, check out our services and open calls.
Do you have a recovery project in the early stages? We're offering project cultivation again! Cultivated projects receive a year of scholarly and technical support, plus a $2,000 stipend. The priority deadline for submission is March 15, 2023. Learn more: recoveryhub.siue.edu/cultivation/
