@JoshuaMD80 Yes! But you may find some installer issues right now on PowerPC. You will need to do the partitioning using another tool, perhaps Disk Utility.
We are proud to announce the release of Adélie #Linux 1.0-BETA5, available now for 32- and 64-bit Arm, Power, and x86!
Release notes, download links, and more fun can be found on our release announcement: adelie.blog/2023/12/10/ade…
The Adélie Linux distribution is announcing a strategic change in leadership to further refine and drive its mission. Read more about this and other exciting updates here: blog.adelielinux.org/2021/07/22/202…
@kd8bxp Sorry for the late reply.
I think you should try Void Linux ppc voidlinux-ppc.org
I do not have it but I always hear good things about it.
PS: There is(?) also Adélie Linux @AdelieLinux but I see they changed the website I do not know if the people behind it are the same.
So anyone know of a "easy" to use linux distro that will work on an old powerpc g4 with 700mb ram, and 80gb hard drive. It has to be somewhat modern since I need it for the grandkid to watch youtube videos. #Linux#PowerPC#iMac#Mushroom#Ubuntu#Mint
@jhamby We share many of these convictions. Our team lived through the history you have chronicled, and we believe what you do. #Linux does not need to be hard to use; it can be as easy as we care to make it! #usability#foss
@astr0baby@shawnanastasio It is in fact POWER9. Performance is simply a dream; single thread workloads can easily outperform first gen EPYC.
Using Talos let us iterate so much faster. Newer LLVM in Adélie is only possible because it builds in 8 minutes on Talos.
@AdelieLinux@shawnanastasio I would definitely love to try and work on the Raptor Talos 2 platform - to see the qemu-system-ppc64 KVM full potential :) Is the CPU Power7 or Power8 ?
Observation - OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (current) ppc64 should run on the Mac G5 but the installer does not understand the Apple partition map (only works with IBM PReP partition for the bootloader) - however under Qemu-system-ppc64 + KVM it is quite usable on Ubuntu 16.04 ppc64
@mpc7500v2@astr0baby@shawnanastasio We are hopeful that this is not the case. Gentoo supports PPC64. Debian recently added a powerful server for building the PPC64 port. Ataraxia supports PPC64, albeit not every release has ISOs.
If other distributions need PPC64 help, they can contact us. We'd be happy to help!
@astr0baby@AdelieLinux@shawnanastasio But do not hold your breath. Fienix is also only based on Debian. I can agree with @shawnanastasio. Apart from *bsd, sooner or later only AdélieLinux and VoidLinux will remain for PowerPC big-endian.
@AnteefaA Hi. One of our project's founders is Pottawatomie. We do not condone past actions that in any way discriminated against BIPOC, including that Tulsa was founded on Muscogee/Cherokee land. We wish to look forward towards a future that provides respect and justice for all people.
@fra_il_chimico Hi there! Adélie should run fine on G3. 1G RAM is plenty, and SSD should perform well. Rage128 will work but will not have OpenGL acceleration at this time. Any other q's, feel free to Tweet, IRC, or use our mailing lists. Have fun!
@AdelieLinux Hi great work you are doing here. Just a question: would I be able to run Adelie 1RC on a iMac G3 700mhz cxe, 1Gb Ram, SSD hdd? Would be acceleration for my Ati Rage 128 Ultra available? I know that modern MESA has dropped support for it. Thanks in advance for your reply.
#Horizon: Custom package selection is now fully implemented. The software listed is in a text file separate from the code, so we can easily maintain and update it as user needs dictate.

@ikey_doherty@weh_kaniini@alpinelinux Our getconf is clean-roomed (see code.foxkit.us/adelie/shimmy/…) but it doesn't meet your goal of being Linux-only. This was to ensure portability to other kernels if anyone ever wanted to do a kFreeBSD-like port.
We don't have a decent getent yet, so we're excited to see what you do!
@ikey_doherty@weh_kaniini@alpinelinux And that's what makes this ecosystem so great.
Our goals are almost exactly the opposite as Serpent, but we look forward to working together on common aims (making musl perform well on modern h/w, improving clang, etc) where it makes sense. 👍🏻
@ikey_doherty@weh_kaniini@alpinelinux We always welcome new distros and ways of doing things to the musl landscape. That's how to grow a vibrant, diverse ecosystem that can reach & help the max # of ppl.
It's a common misconception that we're related to Alpine. We share tooling but have wide diffs in goals & ideals.
