PRESS RELEASE RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND DISSOLVES TACTICAL TEAMS, ESTABLISHES VIOLENT CRIME RESPONSE UNIT The Rivers State Police Command has announced the dissolution of Tactical Teams within the Command, in line with ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism, and public confidence in policing. This action is in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips. Following this directive, all disbanded Tactical Teams have been consolidated into a single, specialized formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The unit is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while adhering to established rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights. The Command has also issued a strong warning against extortion, abuse of office, and all forms of unprofessional conduct. Officers are reminded that any violation of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional ethics will attract strict disciplinary action. The Commissioner of Police reassures residents of Rivers State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He further urges members of the public to cooperate with the Police and report any misconduct or suspicious activities. PRESS RELEASE RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RESCUE OF HOSTAGE The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crimes within the State. Sequel to the kidnap of one Chukwudekwu Emmanuel (male), a resident of Lagos State, which occurred on 17th February, 2026 at Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, operatives of the Command based at Emohua, leveraging on the technology-driven strategies of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on 14th April, 2026 at about 1300hrs, successfully apprehended three suspected kidnappers linked to the crime, one Chinedu Okoro (male), 38 years, a native of Imo State, one Okwudiri Njoku (male), 32 years, a native of Ozuzu, Etche Local Government Area and one Onyema Sunday (male), 25 years, a native of Ika, Akwa Ibom State. Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects specialize in luring unsuspecting victims from different parts of the country through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Tinder, using the images of reputable personalities to gain trust. The suspects were apprehended while attempting to kidnap another victim, one Chisom Nwokolo George (male), who was deceitfully invited from Anambra State under the pretext of inviting him for an interior decoration job. During investigation, the suspects confessed to multiple kidnapping operations, including: The kidnap of Jennifer Nnaji (female), a resident of Enugu State, on 1st March, 2026, the kidnap of one Lakan Ayodele (male), a resident of Lagos State. Exhibit recovered includes one operational motorcycle with registration number AHD 758 VT. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and other members of the syndicate. RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE JOINT SECURITY OPERATION ON CRIMINAL HIDEOUTS AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS/ AMMUNITIONS The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a successful joint security operation carried out against criminal elements operating within the State. In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, the Command continues to collaborate closely with sister security agencies to enhance the protection and security of citizens, while also strengthening inter-agency cooperation and synergy. On 12th April, 2026, at about 1300 hours, Tactical Teams of the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, DSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, embarked on a coordinated operation to clear identified criminal camps suspected to be used as hideout for kidnapping and other criminal activities. During the operation, the joint security team identified the criminal hideouts at IPO and IGWURUTA-ALI Camp. In the course of the operation, the following items were recovered,One (1) AK-47 rifle, One (1) pump-action gun, Two hundred and seventy-four (274) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, Four (4) cartridges, native bulletproof materials, a large iron cutter, communication radios and other items. Preliminary findings indicate that the recovered pump-action gun is suspected to be owned by the leader of the local vigilante group called ( OSPAC) alleged to have been previously abducted. The criminal camps were successfully destroyed. However, one suspect was arrested within that vicinity and still under investigation, while other suspects fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives. Investigation is ongoing with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects and rescuing the kidnapped victim. RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE POLICE ARREST SUSPECT FOR ALLEGED KIDNAPPING AND RAPE The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Otamiri Prince 'M', aged 24, in connection with a case of alleged kidnapping and rape. Following a report made on 11th April, 2026 by one Miss Thomas Alice (F) aged (24) of Eliozu, Port Harcourt, the victim alleged that she was kidnapped on 3rd January, 2026 by an individual she met online. According to her statement, she was lured to Igwuruta, from where she was subsequently taken by accomplices to a bush in Ulakwo, Etche Local Government Area, where she was assaulted, raped and her valuables taken before she was later released. On receipt of the report, operatives of the Command promptly commenced investigation, leveraging on technology-driven strategies of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aided the investigation and eventual arrest of the suspect, Otamiri Prince 'm' who confessed to the crime. Exhibits recovered from him include an iPhone, a wig suspected to belong to the victim and other valuables. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang as investigation continues, after which the suspect(s) will be charged to court. ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo is an indigene of Rivers State, from Ogoni in Tai Local Government Area. She was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2023, following the successful completion of a rigorous five-year training programme at the Nigeria Police Academy, where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). She also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from Rivers State University. In the course of her training and career, she has attended several specialized professional courses, including: •Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School, Ende Hills, Nasarawa State; •Citizenship and Leadership Training Course at Shere Hills, Jos.
