US paid iran to slow down the nuclear plan, iran used it to build out its network of armed proxies and ballistic missiles, so US paid israel so it can build anti-missile systems and recreate the fake balance the bill came in every year, from both sides, for decades same idiotic policy applied to every other global conflict. pay both sides and repeatedly tip the scales in both directions just enough to avoid fallout the only issue is that every time you touch the scales it costs trillions. and you can never get it just right trump came in and said fuck it. we’re not spending all this money anymore on a yearly basis forever. let the bullies have their fight and we’ll see who wins. it’ll take weeks instead of decades when this ends (very soon) there will be actual peace in the middle east, because the new schelling point will be real. it won’t be a fake imbalance backstopped by trillions. and the new normal will be a peaceful region which americans have been taught for a century was impossible. yes, just like that that (and similarly russia/ukraine) probably resolves by 2027, leaving east/southeast asia as the last bastion of fake imbalances on the planet, but that’s a topic for another day
