Is UNHCR getting away with violations of refugees rights in Libya? “Everyday a child dies in this place” For over two months vulnerable families mostly women and children sleeping outside the UN building have been abandoned and neglected by the @UNHCRLibya without the basic necessities. Every single day they shout for help but little is provided to a very little group of people. The question is that is @UNHCRLibya getting away with all these allegations? On the 20th of July the UNHCR’s staff threatened persons camping outside its facility with arrests and torture like that of 2021, a week later on the 27th the women and children were attacked by militias, tents, blankets and various possessions were burnt. We wrote to The commission asking for clarification but they never responded, instead they released a press statement denying all the accusations. On 22nd of August, the militias once again attacked the camp and when people approached the UNHCR building, they were severely beaten by the UNHCR guards resulting into several traumas of 3 pregnant women, two of whom the claim to have rushed to the hospital afterwards, a women was severely injured on her ear while the other had her fingers cut to the bones. The following the day the UNHCR released a statement denying any violent intervention by its guards and denying that they had called the militias to come and dismantle the camp. We have wrote several communications asking for clarity but once they do not respond. To this day hundreds are still abandoned outside its facility without any attention or support. We reiterate that Libya is not a safe country, the UNHCR should be our voice not a silencer. #EvacuateRefugeesFromLibya

Just two days ago, our spokesperson @Yambiodavid was received by the Italian parliament at @Montecitorio to hear about our conditions in Libya but at the same time @GiorgiaMeloni was meeting with the Libya prime minister @Dabaibahamid to congratulate him for the ruthless human rights violation of intercepting vulnerable refugees at see pulling them back to Libya where our rights are violated. She added that Italy remains determined to confirm its constant commitment to support the Libyan authorities in the management of migration flows and in assisting local communities through the projects of the migration funds without mentioning the tortures, abuses, kidnappings, rapes and exploitations of vulnerable people in Libya. At the EU level the interior ministers of the EU headed by @NancyFaeser passed one of the cruelest asylum reforms (#GEAS) undermining the right to asylum. This political session was also attended by many ministers and European heads of state who already knows about the deadly situation in Libya like @ABaerbock who on the 30th of May met with our spokesperson @Yambiodavid and Sea rescue organisations, civil societies to understand what best to be done. A number of recommendations were presented to the @GermanyDiplo but it seems that it was all useless.
