@MoTrumpster @Freedoms_Ghosts @atensnut Couple of reasons. 1) the rudder may have been pointed starboard when the power failed and although they did eventually push it hard port and drop port anchor, it was too late 2) the wind that night was blowing from the Dali’s port side at 10 kts, 3) current which is unknown.

@JohnBertramMoss @MemesAndThings_ @atensnut This is and has been a a gray area. Legally the Master of the vessel always has control and is within his right to resume command from the pilot if doubting his abilities, pilot is there for local knowledge and working with tugs

@MemesAndThings_ @atensnut When a ship is closing on a US port a highly experienced and highly paid US Pilot Port Captain takes over the command of the vessel with all instructions coming from him or her. The Captain is somewhat subservient at this point so questions should be directed at the Pilot
