Our friend and Comrade Joti Brar, Chair of the CPGB-ML has been arrested in Kenya for demonstrating against French imperialist dominance of the country. The demonstration was peaceful with banners and chants. The imperialist foot soldiers have replied with repression. The Communists@CPGBML·
Joti Brar, Chair of the CPGB-ML, has been arrested by the Kenyan army led by the comprador president William Ruto, at a peaceful demonstration in Nairobi this morning. We demand her immediate release along with our Kenyan comrades and comrades of the anti imperialist platform. Imperialism: Hands off Africa! STATEMENT ON THE ARREST OF ANTI IMPERIALIST COMRADES IN NAIROBI The Central Organising Committee of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya strongly condemns the arrests, intimidation and harassment carried out by the Kenyan state against local and international comrades who participated in the anti French imperialism demonstration and the counter summit held in Nairobi against the so called Africa Forward Summit. These arrests expose the true character of the Ruto regime as a neocolonial and comprador administration acting in defence of imperialist interests against the democratic rights of the people. The regime has chosen to criminalise anti imperialist solidarity while rolling out the red carpet for foreign exploiters and agents of monopoly capital. Among those arrested are distinguished anti imperialist and revolutionary activists, intellectuals and organisers from different parts of the world who came to stand in solidarity with the struggling masses of Africa against imperialism, militarisation and neocolonial domination. x.com/bookerbiro/sta… The arrested comrades include: Dimitiros Patelis  Lee and Danbi from South Korea  Joti Brar  Gacheke Gachihi  Guy Bremond  Sayialel Mankuyio  Juliaus Kamau  John Kamau  Brian Mwanzi  Derivk Opiyo  Fredrik Yara  Colins Otieno Their only crime is standing with the oppressed. Their only crime is rejecting imperialist domination. Their only crime is declaring that Africa is not for sale. The arrest of international delegates further demonstrates the growing panic within imperialist and comprador circles. They fear the unity of revolutionary and progressive forces across continents. They fear international solidarity against imperialism. They fear a politically conscious people. We remind the Ruto regime that repression has never defeated the people’s struggle. Colonial detention camps did not defeat the liberation movement. Moi’s anti communist repression did not defeat the struggle for democratic rights. Fascist laws and police terror will not silence the masses today. As Kwame Nkrumah taught us, the independence of Africa is meaningless unless it is linked with the total liberation of the continent from imperialism and neocolonialism. We therefore demand: 1. The immediate and unconditional release of all arrested comrades. 2. An end to police harassment, abductions and repression against activists, organisers and progressive movements. 3. The immediate halt to all imperialist military, political and economic agreements being imposed upon Kenya and Africa. 4. Respect for the democratic rights of all participants attending anti imperialist and Pan African gatherings. The Communist Party Marxist Kenya reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with all arrested comrades. An injury to one is an injury to all. The struggle against imperialism is international, and no amount of repression shall defeat the organised masses of the people. Forward ever in the struggle against imperialism!  Forward ever in international solidarity!  Victory belongs to the workers and peasants! Issued by: Central Organising Committee  Communist Party Marxist Kenya

Irish is the native language of this island. It was here long before partition, long before unionism, and it will be here long after they're gone. You can erase a sign. You can't erase a language's right to exist in its own homeland. #beathateangaíalabhairt

A giant "you're welcome" to Mark Carney, Emmanuel Macron and the rest of the leaders and commentators at the back of the class there in Davos, now finally waking up to the obvious and saying things we on the left got relentlessly abused for voicing years ago. You're welcome to copy our homework. Welcome to reality. But please catch up and STOP conflating the "rules-based international order" with the United Nations and international law. They are NOT the same thing. International law and the UN desperately need to be upheld. The rules-based international order" - which was always just a slogan for America's regime of double standards - must go in the dustbin of history. Learn the distinction. Observe it. Lives depend on it.👇
Clare Daly@ClareDalyIRL

Yes but more needs to be said. Many people mistakenly believe "the United Nations/international law" and the "rules-based international order" are interchangeable terms. They are not. International law exists and must be upheld, especially by those who abhor war and atrocity. Just because international law is violated by states does not mean it does not exist. The "rules-based international order" is a rhetorical trick used by American and European leaders to claim the moral high ground of international law without any of the obligations, to denounce opponents even as they launch their own wars of aggression and participate in the live-streamed holocausts of entire peoples. The "rules-based international order" has no basis in law. It does not exist except as a propaganda term for promoting the myth of Western exceptionalism. Every time a Western leader or institution uses this phrase, it is a deliberate omission of international law. They omit international law because it applies to everyone, including them. In the "rules-based international order" of their imaginations, the world is expected to dance to their double standard: they make the rules, and everyone else just has to follow orders. It is little wonder this language is rejected at the UN by a majority of the world's countries representing a majority of the world's people, many of whom remember the last time Europeans made all the rules and everyone else had to follow orders. This is a really important distinction to remember. As the world has watched unspeakable atrocities happen without accountability, many are losing faith in international law. Many are concluding it was all just a self-serving lie. That is a mistake. To do this is to unintentionally aid the attack on international law that is so abhorrent in the first place. The world cannot afford for those who oppose war and genocide to fall into listless cynicism. The post-war international system is not perfect, but it is hard won, and it is all we have. The UN Charter is the single most consensual document of international law in history. It was the product of decades of war and nearly 100 million deaths. It was written to "save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind." Those ignoring and eroding it (including those in Europe parroting the lie that the UN is "no longer fit for purpose") are attempting to bring us back to the violent free-for-all where "the strong do what they want and the weak suffer what they must" - the world that created the need for the Charter in the first place. The war criminals and the genocidaires in Tel Aviv, Brussels, London and Washington would like nothing better than to convince us all that international law does not exist. Do not reward them! It is imperative that those of us who insist on a world free from war and injustice ensure that it is the myth of Western exceptionalism that dies in the bonfire they are building, not international law and the United Nations.
