Just a reminder that it was Sony's removal of the ability to install Linux on the PS3 (an advertised feature) that eventually led to the 2011 PlayStation Network hack that cost them hundreds of millions of dollars.
Anti-consumer actions ultimately have severe consequences.

@NBCNews Not to defend Sony here- but the truth is that games went all digital a long time ago. A lot of times the game on the disc is incomplete and still requires you to download stuff, or sometimes it contains basically nothing at all (as is now the case with Nintendo key cards).

I think the funniest part about this is that Sony removed Other OS from PS3 to avoid the possibility of the console getting jailbroken. This decision then proceeded to start the mass effort to jailbreak the PS3
