@Coach_OC @JoePompliano There are a lot of late bloomers that come on well into high school. I know first hand. As well kids are getting cut from teams because they are not specializing in that sport. They see this coming at early ages and believe they are wasting their time so they don’t try.

@JoePompliano Is it possible that we're now cutting kids and telling them they're not elite or national-level at the age of 8? Remember, in the past, most kids were exposed to little league or in-house teams until they were 11, and the experience of not making a team didn't happen until then.

Youth participation across baseball (-20%) and tackle football (-13%) is down a lot over the several years, while sports like tennis (+51%), Golf (+32%), and soccer (+4%) have seen substantial growth. Also, boys (40%) are still more likely to play sports than girls (35%) — but the two genders are headed in opposite directions. Interesting numbers. (h/t @AspenInstitute)
