10 years ago today I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I remember it vividly. It was a boiling hot day. Mark was sitting next to me in the GP’s. It was the school holidays - our boys, then 8 and 11, were being looked after by our close friends
The doctor simply said, ‘it IS malignant’.
I didn’t gasp or weep or scream. But I was crushed
When we got outside, I did cry into Mark’s shoulder. And I swore - ‘I can’t fucking believe this’
That was the start of anxiety-inducing tests and scans and biopsies. And all I wanted to know was, ‘is it going to kill me?’
Weeks later it became clear my cancer *was* treatable. And then I was elated - completely on a high - because that meant hopefully I would get to see my boys grow up, and I would get to grow old with Mark ❤️
I cannot tell you how INCREDIBLE the NHS and its staff were - in particular Mr Kothari, and nurses Outra and Emma. So skilled, so kind. So life-saving. I will never be able to thank them enough
It’s weird to think a decade has gone by since then. I’ve definitely made the most of life with Mark and our boys and our dogs and our magnificent friends and my gorgeous family. I couldn’t have got through it without all of them.
Oh yeah and Mark and I got married after 16 yrs of being together and our boys walked me down the aisle. God it was life-affirming
I know I am so bloody fortunate to have had a cancer that was treatable. I’m one of the lucky ones, and for that, I am unbelievably grateful every single day

@ZiaYusufUK Are you an ‘activist’ Zia? What should happen to ‘activists’?
English

Responding to Dan Neidle:
I’ve been doing media all day so only now getting around to responding to his drivel.
Far left political activists like Dan are being held up as 'economic experts' by the MSM and poisoning the discourse in this country, so they do need to be rebutted.
The fact he published his long thread before our 12 page policy document had even been published is a clue that this was not a dispassionate economic assessment, but naked political activism. 🧵

@zatzi Is there a sort of check out procedure for business leaders as they leave? Clock in their cards as they leave by the works’ exit?
English

This is so depressing. And so predictable. 👇

@andrewrawnsley And what is happening to TikTok? A week before Trump’s edict comes in to ban TikTok in America or force it to sell itself to an American company and no British journalist is asking questions. Illustrates Trumpism in a nutshell

@Steven_Swinford Superb weather this year. Mediterranean conditions. Would this have some effect on numbers?
English

Some quite staggering official figures this morning showing how many people migrant gangs are cramming onto small boats
The number of small boats with more than ***80 people*** has tripled in the past year - there were 33. That's 33 occassions when 80 people crammed onto a tiny vessel, at huge risk to all people on board
There were 345 small boats with 60 people or more in the year to April 2025, up from 164 in the year to April 2024
For all the talk of smashing the gangs they have changed their model to make it even more lucrative - record numbers of crossings, record numbers on each vessel - with ever greater risk for those on board

@ShelaghFogarty Is this a piece of quality journalism you are contributing to? Fearless and fact based?

@steverichards14 @BBCr4today It is a favourite trope of Laura Kuenssberg as well. She constantly says “What our viewers want to know..” I long for an interviewee to say “Prove it”
