With Germany playing World Cup group stage matches in Toronto, Houston and New Jersey, these fans explained why they picked the Canadian city to watch their team “I don’t want to go to the U.S. when there’s this clown as president, you know?”

The Germans put together quite a glorious, beer-induced march through Toronto. Ahead of their match, I spoke to fans on why they picked Toronto (vs. the U.S.) in the first place to watch the World Cup — along with how the logistics of the city made the march possible ca.news.yahoo.com/world-cup-2026…

Pretty loud boos here in Toronto as the hydration break gets underway during the first half between Germany and Cote D’Ivoire. For context, it’s about 22C here in Toronto.

Toronto got a massive dose of "Panamonium" as it hosts Panama's first two World Cup group stage matches. "It feels a lot like home," says Andres Chanis, who made the journey alongside thousands of others from Panama to Canada. ca.news.yahoo.com/world-cup-2026…

History was made today for Team Canada with its draw vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina. The secret weapon was the home crowd, as Canada welcomed the 2026 World Cup in roaring fashion. "The crowd, I think, willed us into the game," says Canada head coach Jesse Marsch. In doing so, Team Canada was able to capture the moment, while also inspiring the "next generation of stars." ca.news.yahoo.com/world-cup-2026…

It was fitting that Canada's late goal came on home soil in Toronto, which head coach coach Jesse Marsch believes played a big factor in drawing the tie in the second half. "The good part was, is in a difficult moment, we responded, and I have to also thank the crowd," said Marsch. "The crowd, I think, willed us into the game, and as they could feel the energy in the second half tilting more and more, they were more and more on the edge of their seats, and the place erupted when we got the goal."

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch believes if his team played the same way they had in the second half for the entire match, they would have come out with a win versus Bosnia. “I got to figure out how to get a little bit more out of some of the starters too, and make sure that we have a better performance from the start,” said Marsch. “Because I told them after the match that if we play like that second half, the whole match, we win, right."

Cyle Larin was the hero today for Team Canada, after coming into the matchup in the 76th minute as a substitute, despite regularly being among Jesse Marsch's First XI. "Kyle wasn't happy about not starting," said Marsch post-game. "We had a brief conversation about that, but I said to him, 'Look you've had a great year at Southampton, whether you've started or come off the bench, you've had an impact in every game, and now you have to wrap your mind around that. And he did."
