In ~8 hours Globex Futures resume trading and we are surely one week closer to this scenario 👇🏻 It’s a normal morning at a giant oil refinery on the US Gulf Coast. The ops team checks the tanks and those are now dangerously close to hitting “tank bottoms”: the scary low point where the whole refinery could shut down any minute. Restarting would cost millions and take days. Panic time. The traders grab their phones and jump into the spot market. They need physical barrels right now. They start bidding like crazy: offering $5, $8, even $10+ extra per barrel over Dated Brent. They’ll take any crude that floats, any quality, just to get it delivered ASAP. Word spreads instantly. Other refineries see one big player desperately overpaying and think: “That could be us tomorrow.” So they rush in and start buying too, topping up their own tanks just in case. Suddenly, the tiny pool of available prompt oil vanishes. Spot prices explode. Traders, hedge funds, and algorithms jump on the move. Futures markets rocket higher. In just a few days, one refinery’s emergency turns into a full-blown market shock. That’s how fragile the oil market really is right now.
