@Farmin4Ganja @wrestlingnomad @MTorriero No we didn’t have those things. But we had 4 state champs and 12 all state wrestlers without them. So I’m not quite sure what “let’s be realistic” means.

@CDolson20 @wrestlingnomad @MTorriero Did that school have a weight room with a staff member dedicated to weight training for athletes and multiple D1 and 2 coaches on the wrestling staff? Because in IL, only the big schools have those. Can any kid step on the mat and have success? Yes. But let’s be realistic.

Having more than 2 divisions at a high school state tournament is lame. Also, diminishing the first period to 1 or 1.5 in the wrestle backs at a high school state tournament is also lame.

@Farmin4Ganja @wrestlingnomad @MTorriero One of the great things about wrestling is u only need wrestling shoes and a mat. I’ve seen both good and bad coaches at small rural schools, and same at private/city schools. Fancy wrestling rooms and big name coaches are not pre requisites for HS success

@Farmin4Ganja @wrestlingnomad @MTorriero If we are talking individual state championships, I’m not sure why it matters how many kids are in the school or on the team. There are two competitors on the mat. One from each school.

@CDolson20 @wrestlingnomad @MTorriero My kid wrestles in a small 1A school in IL. 75 kids in his class, 25-30 on the team. You mean to tell me that’s the same as some huge Chicago school? Come on, get real….

@wrestlingnomad @MTorriero When I recruit kids to join wrestling never once has a kid asked me how many divisions are there. Nor has a kid ever quit one of my teams because there were too few divisions.

@MTorriero I believe there is reasonably good data that having one division per approx 100 schools is good for participation and retention at the high school level
