A woman on Youtube recently posted a video about how "she gets everything she wants" and listed examples like her dream car, her home, her wealth, her millions of Youtube subscribers. She advised how to work toward your goals and create vision boards to hone in on the specifics. Pretty basic stuff and all well and good, if what she actually wants is just cars and money, but I've also seen her post videos about how she's overcome with crushing depression and loneliness. She's in her thirties, lives alone, and has never had a serious relationship - I would imagine in part because of her relentless pursuit of these goals. If you want money and power, it's there for those who have the desire and ability to pursue it with ruthless intention. But you have to beware that it doesn't come at the price of smothering the voice of your spirit inside of you. There exists within you quiet and soft desires that can't so easily be pasted on a vision board or added to a spreadsheet. And these are the things that often give you happiness. Not the big ticket items. Not the big publishing deal. The subscribers. The money. The fame. But the slow and seeping growth of your being, infiltrating each space between the cracks - the part of you that when you do achieve something, you'll actually be able to experience it as happiness. Otherwise you risk sacrificing yourself on the altar of the rewards you desired. And then really, in the end, you'll have nothing.
