(March 15, 2026) — The following is a statement from Rep. Candy Massaroni and Sen. Jimmy Higdon regarding the death of U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt of Bardstown in Nelson County. “We are deeply saddened to learn about the loss of Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, a proud Kentuckian from Bardstown, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country overseas. “At just 34 years old, Ashley demonstrated the courage, dedication and sense of duty that define the men and women of America’s armed forces. She answered the call to serve and represented Kentucky with honor. “The sacrifice made by Ashley and her fellow servicemembers is a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy at home are safeguarded by brave Americans willing to place themselves in harm’s way. Her service reflects a deep commitment to something greater than herself. “We express our heartfelt sympathy to Ashley's loved ones, friends and fellow Airmen, as well as the whole Bardstown community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this tragic time. “We join all of Kentucky and America in remembering Ashley’s bravery and love for our country. Our hearts go out to her family and friends as we celebrate a life that was dedicated to serving our nation.” ____ Background According to the U.S. Air Force and multiple media reports, U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, Kentucky, was among six American airmen killed March 12, 2026, when a KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq during a mission supporting U.S. military operations in the region. Pruitt was assigned to the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida and had served in the Air Force since 2017. According to reporting on the incident, the aircraft was supporting Operation Epic Fury at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by U.S. military officials. ### Rep. Candy Massaroni, R-Bardstown, represents the 50th District in Nelson County. She serves as a member of the House Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee. Sen. Kentucky Mother and Air Force Airman Among Six Killed in Military Plane Crash A Kentucky community is mourning the loss of Technical Sergeant Ashley Pruitt, a Bardstown native who was among six U.S. Air Force service members killed in a military aircraft crash while deployed overseas. Pruitt joined the United States Air Force in 2017 and found her passion serving as a boom operator, the Airman responsible for refueling aircraft mid-air during missions. Those who knew her say she loved the job and took incredible pride in serving her country and supporting the mission every day. As a Technical Sergeant, she was also known as a leader who truly cared about the Airmen she worked alongside. But above all, Ashley loved her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband Greg and a loving mother to their three-year-old daughter, Emilia. She was also a proud stepmother to Oliver. Friends say she worked hard for the family she always wanted and cherished them with her whole heart. Her loss leaves an unimaginable hole for her family, friends, and fellow Airmen — and many across Kentucky are remembering her not only for her service, but for the love she shared with those closest to her.

Bardstown has lost one of our own. Ashley gave the ultimate sacrifice. Please join me in lifting up her family in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. I wonder which constitutionally sound conservatives the Commonwealth Conservative Coalition PAC will target this cycle. I love being able to serve Kentucky’s 66th House District. I love being able to ensure that Boone County’s voice is heard loud and clear. I love being able to be a watchman to ensure that life, liberty, and property is protected. But there are a lot things I love more than holding a title. One of those things is ensuring that the rights of families are secured in Kentucky. With House Bill 1 out of the House and Senate, the Far Left is furious that we’re ensuring that parents have a voice in their education, and they want me gone. I refuse to give up. The fight for freedom is too important to give up out of convenience. I took time to write to myself before I was sworn in, outlining what are the issues that were so important to me, that I’d rather lose my seat and return to the private sector to continue the fight than give up on while in office. Education Freedom is on that list. I don’t want to lose, but if that’s the cost of Education Freedom, it will have been worth it. It isn’t a close call. It’s about time. Taxpayer dollars were never meant to be used to lobby the very taxpayers who fund the government. Using public money to influence ballot measures is a breach of trust — plain and simple. This reform is long overdue, and when it comes to the House, I’ll gladly support it. The people’s money should serve the people.

BREAKING: Kentucky House just passed a bill requiring the state to opt in to Trump's new school choice program. The vote was 79 to 17. It now goes to the Senate. It gives final opt in authority to their GOP Secretary of State, taking it away from their Democrat Governor.
