For almost 20 years, I've been on X/Twitter. The platform has been an invaluable connector to information & people around the world. But the value exchange has been largely one way: I've consumed content but created very little in return. Starting now, I want to change that. I'm a three-time founder who has spent 30+ years in Silicon Valley building and investing in innovative tech companies. So much of my journey has been enabled by the support and guidance of others. After decades of learning from others, it's time to pay it forward. So if we haven't met yet, I'm Nirav Tolia, and I: • Co-founded @Nextdoor in 2010 and returned in 2024 as CEO to drive our company's turnaround. We're reimagining the power of local, real-world communities in an increasingly disconnected world. • Started in Silicon Valley as an undergrad @Stanford in the early 90s. That led to the lottery ticket of joining Yahoo! as employee #84, where I experienced first-hand the early days of the dot-com boom (and bust). • Created three consumer internet companies (two went public), raised hundreds of millions in private funding, hired hundreds of employees, and developed a deep network spanning SV, Texas, and Europe. • Invested in and advised dozens of companies as an angel investor, Chairman of Hedosophia, and a Guest Shark on @ABCSharkTank. Sitting on the other side of the table only reinforces my love of entrepreneurship. • Organized scores of dinners with accomplished tech CEOs and leaders in many diverse fields. No press, no agenda — just a sincere desire for authentic connection and raw conversations about mutual challenges. Yes, I've been fortunate to experience a unique level of business success. But I've also experienced the worst kind of heartache, despair, and failure. In fact, my belief is that the best insights don't come from the good times, they come from the necessity of learning from the bad ones. And it's those learnings that I want to share, honestly and humbly. This will include the unfiltered truth about building @Nextdoor the second time around, as well as all of my experiences around entrepreneurship, investing, community, and everything else I've experienced in my 53 years. Please follow me @niravtolia for more!
