@retneysholocron TLJ is my favorite SW movie. Because I loved all of the swings RJ took with that film, I fail to force myself to sit through a TROS rewatch. It retcons so much of TLJ so fast, it feels like the creators were its harshest haters. This decision is one of the first offenders.

Did you know that all of these visuals are expository and paired with Palpatine's dialogue about the dark side being a pathway to unnatural abilities, you as the viewer should be able to gather that he has returned through some kind of cloning? "Somehow Palpatine returned" is not the explanation that the film gives. This entire opening sequence really gives you everything you need to know. Its "show don't tell."

@spencerr0905 I’m still bitter that I was limited to only 3v3 for Crucible in Destiny 1 because I didn’t buy The Taken King. They stripped out access to game modes in multiplayer if you didn’t have the paid (primarily campaign focused) expansion. Ridiculous.

@TOTK_Stannis @bouncyrou Yeah. Everything would be much different, obviously. Ned on the Wall with Jon. It’s a brilliant twist by Martin. Making the twist seem to be the hero of the story being defeated, but with the suggestion that he’d then be sent to where we know the real fight is brewing.

@TOTK_Stannis @bouncyrou I think this is the most likely theory. The idea that Varys would do it doesn’t make sense. Varys does not want war. He encourages Ned to take the black. He wouldn’t then have him assassinated as an “unpredictable element”. You can predict Ned will stay on the Wall.

@bouncyrou He was definitely in there on purpose. I like the theory that little finger had him there to kill Ned on his way to the night’s watch in a way that implicated the Lannisters, but Joffrey made it irrelevant by impulsively having him executed

It would have been the war of the 5 kings, but with the Starks not fighting for northern independence - instead trying to install a secret Targaryen on the Iron Throne. With Ned in King’s Landing with no allies. The lords of the north would never go for it, either.

Why does GRRM always kill off the most honorable man in every story? Baelor Breakspear. Ned Stark. Jon Arryn. is GRRM allergic to good men?

@UTIUTD @Macavit25431185 I don’t think it’s explicit because of this. Squiring for another knight would also be a viable solution to “I’ve been knighted and my only witness is dead”.

@Macavit25431185 In the book it's fairly explicit he's not knighted, as his first thought is "I could find another knight to squire for" and doesn't think "I'm a knight now" at all.

It's funny that Ira insists whether Dunk was knighted is still ambiguous, because the only question mark in the book is whether or not that possibility even occurs to the reader. Once the show has straight up shown that there's a chance he wasn't there's clearly 0 way he ever was

@Macavit25431185 It’s ambiguous, but the hesitation to knight Raymun holds a lot more meaning if he knows he’s not a “true” knight. It coooould be he hesitated because he worried about getting him killed, but falsely knighting his friend would probably be a step too far for Dunk.

@jryann99 @ScottyShapiro @Uc_heyy02 He didn’t send Jon to the Wall. If he’d proclaiming Jon as a Targaryen, Robert would have killed him. If he did after Robert’s death, he’d have had no allies. Naming and supporting Jon would have been like backing Dany. Besides, Jon gave up his birthright. Ned is good to a fault.

If not, they also possibly die in the Great Spring Sickness. Ned’s death didn’t convince the realm.

He’s a truer knight than most “true” knights. That sense of honor is likely what made him hesitate and not knight Raymun.

@saintdutchess I don’t trust anyone who claims Chalamet or Plemons don’t deserve recognition in any given year. I don’t think tearing TC down to support Plemons is necessary, but I don’t think she’s doing that. Honestly, the take she reposted hardly does that at all, either.

@saintdutchess I haven’t see either movie, but they are top of my list. Plemons and Chalamet are both top notch performers. I checked out what she posted and she didn’t throw any shade directly. She reposted a take that said TC wasn’t as good, but it wasn’t a harsh claim.

I stand with Kirsten Dunst I don’t care what she posted. I know she’s right.
