Deeply saddened to hear of the tragic accident at LaGuardia Airport involving an Air Canada Express aircraft. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with the families and loved ones to those who tragically lost their lives, as well as the injured and their loved ones, hoping for healing and recovery. Aviation remains the our highest priority and Canada is working with U.S. authorities to investigate.

My heart is heavy for Tumbler Ridge today. To the families facing the unthinkable, all of Canada mourns with you. In this profound loss, we stand together as one. We are grateful for first responders and health-care teams who have been a steady presence on this dark day.

Je suis bouleversé par la terrible fusillade qui a eu lieu aujourd'hui à Tumbler Ridge, en Colombie-Britannique. Mes prières et mes sincères condoléances vont aux familles et aux amis qui ont perdu des êtres chers dans cet acte de violence horrible.    Je me joins aux Canadiennes et aux Canadiens pour exprimer ma sympathie à ceux dont la vie a été bouleversée à jamais aujourd'hui, et pour saluer le courage et l'altruisme des premiers intervenants qui ont risqué leur vie pour protéger leurs concitoyens.   Notre capacité à rester unis dans les moments difficiles est ce qu'il y a de mieux dans notre pays : notre empathie, notre unité et notre compassion les uns envers les autres. I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence.   I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens. Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other.   I have connected with Premier Eby to express my condolences, and with the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, who is coordinating the federal response.    Our officials are in close contact with their counterparts to ensure the community is fully supported as best we can. The Government of Canada stands with all British Columbians as they confront this horrible tragedy.

L’artilleur Halmagean était déployé en Lettonie dans le cadre de l'opération REASSURANCE — son premier déploiement à l'étranger avec les Forces armées canadiennes. Notre pays est plus fort grâce à son service. Mes pensées accompagnent sa famille, ses amis et tous ceux qui ont servi à ses côtés.

Saddened to learn of the passing of Gunner Sebastian Halmagean. Gunner Halmagean was deployed to Latvia as part of Operation REASSURANCE — his first overseas deployment with the Canadian Armed Forces. Our country is stronger for his service.  My thoughts are with his family, friends, and with all those served alongside him.

I join Canadians and fans across the world in mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara. Over 5 decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy — from SCTV to Schitt's Creek. Canada has lost a legend. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who loved her work on screen. She will be dearly missed.
