The size, scope and details we got a sneak peek of at Scotia Place confirmed what Gary Bettman said: there won’t be a better rink in the world.
While basing a large part of the design on Detroit’s splashy rink, it really does incorporate the very best of so many other top arenas.
Once you walk in from the street and look 28 rows down at the ice, what strikes you is how steep the stadium in. Fans will be right on top of the action, potentially making it an intimidating rink to play in as a visitor.
The unique opportunities now available, like some tickets that include your own buffet or exclusive bars, are enticing.
The two-storey sports bar, open air patio and massive entrance/outdoor gathering spot that will welcome people from the street-level entrance onto the concourse will be striking.
The massive video screen that winds its way in and out of that opening concourse will get fans hyped before they even enter.
The sports bar will be open to the general public, so fans can enjoy the excitement and buzz of game days even if they don’t have tickets.
Whether you are in a 4-6 person theatre box, a suite or anywhere else, there won’t be a bad seat in the house.
The facilities for players on every team owned by CSEC will be the envy of all opponents, including a separate room for the home team to play two-touch soccer, as every NHL team does to warm up.
This building will make Calgarians even prouder of our world class city.
Be excited Calgary - it will be worth the wait.

As excited as I was about @cgyscotiaplace before getting a behind-the-scenes tour with our @Sportsnet and @Sportsnet960 #Flames broadcast crews, I’m 💯 times more excited now‼️ I was blown away by the size of the building, the amenities for fans, the facilities for players and the incredible attention to detail that has gone into the interior and exterior design. Calgary is a world-class city that will have a world-class event centre in 2027!
