There is a lack of consistency across the borough. In Graveney, sprayed (now dead) weeds haven’t been removed & many roads haven’t been sprayed at all- hence an abundance of weeds up to 3 feet tall. The whole process is extremely poorly managed & executed.

Graveney ward today- THREE MONTHS after a fix my street request for weeding was marked as “fixed”?!?. This is @Merton_Council new in-house street cleaning in all its glorious ineptitude. @Siobhain_Mc has been brilliant writing on residents’ behalf but as of yet ZERO results 🤦🏻‍♂️

The things growing out of cracks in poorly maintained pavements and blocking gutters are weeds and make the streets look horrible and in disrepair.

If @Merton_Council were an actual business they’d go bust within months. Sadly they’ve our top rate council tax to fritter away. I don’t mind paying IF there are tangible results- eg clean streets! There aren’t !

7 weeks after requesting the street be weeded on @fixmystreet & having emailed @rossgarrod @Siobhain_Mc & the various council employees responsible, Graveney remains untouched & unweeded. Why do the street cleaners have hoes if they aren’t going to use them? @rossgarrod promised

The borough has been overrun with weeds for months- in fact exactly since @Merton_Council took street cleaning in house. I logged a report on @fixmystreet asking for my road to be weeded. 6 weeks later nothing so I wrote to @Siobhain_Mc who was incredibly helpful and wrote

I weed outside my property too and some way down the road- the issue is that it’s so overgrown and many residents are elderly. The council used to weed the street with a hoe and a broom- quick, efficient and safe- sadly not for many months…

We hand weed outside our house (leaving the odd pretty wildflower) to hopefully avoid my garden boundary being doused in toxic bee-killing chemicals. It would be great if more folks did the same. 💚🐝

Of course it should be added that @Merton_Council definition of bringing the contract “in house” means contacting (and failing to do so) the work out?! That surely isn’t bringing it in house?!

To the council on @Merton_Council residents behalf. I was forwarded this extraordinary response. @Merton_Council hasn’t actually organised a contractor to do the work in the borough and doesn’t give a date when this will happen. The level of incompetence is just off the scale.
