Sources: Creighton coach Greg McDermott is retiring after this season, with the job being passed on to coach-in-waiting Alan Huss, per me and @jeffborzello. McDermott has won 365 games in 16 years at Creighton.
The coaching battles today are ridiculous:
Bill Self vs. Rick Pitino
Dan Hurley vs. Mick Cronin
Nate Oats vs. Grant McCasland
Matt Painter vs. Jai Lucas
TJ Otzelberger vs. Mark Pope
Ryan Odom vs. Rick Barnes
Todd Golden vs. Ben McCollum
Tommy Lloyd vs. Jerrod Calhoun
Coaches survey's/voting have all show support of adding the shot clock. WBCA supported the Shot Clock. It get to WIAA Board of Control and they will not advance it to a membership vote. That is where we are at. Coaches are in favor, WBCA is in favor, Boards of Control is not.

“Parents & friends get mad because you're getting yelled at, get better parents & better friends."
Really cool moment tonight postgame after VCU upset UNC. VCU head coach Phil Martelli Jr. made a point to shoutout the student reporters that made the trip.
Lots of great stuff this time of year, but this was a really awesome, genuine exchange.

BREAKING: The Wisconsin Senate has passed the NIL bill that includes an annual $14.6 million payment to UW-Madison that frees up sports revenue funds to pay NIL deals to athletes. Seven Republicans opposed the bill, which passed very narrowly 17-16.
Schools (understandably) get upset if basketball coaches don't enter their players for awards, especially Academic All-State.
One of the requirements for WBCA awards, however, is that a coach is a WBCA member.
Schools should therefore be paying for coach association membership. Many do, but quite a few don't.
All coaches should be members regardless, as there are many benefits & the WBCA does great work. But schools should be supporting.
While we're on the topic of state tourney anniversaries, I should have posted this one yesterday. Zak Showalter's dunk off the opening tip for Germantown vs Madison Memorial in 2012 might be the loudest I've heard the Kohl Center for state hoops: youtube.com/watch?v=jZYOn4…#wisbb
Rick Pitino was asked what stops people from being great. His answer was one word.
"Ego stops greatness. I call it edging greatness out."
"In a spiritual sense, ego is edging God out. But ego is edging greatness out."
And he made a key distinction:
"I'm not talking about confidence. You have to be a confident person."
"But ego really gets you to where you think you've arrived. You think you know it all. You stop learning. You stop listening."
That's the trap. Confidence keeps you hungry. Ego convinces you that you've already made it.
You lose your hunger and humility.
"Learning and listening are important for great leaders. Great leaders have to listen and they have to continue to learn and surround themselves with people that are better than them."
EGO = Edging Greatness Out
The moment you think you've arrived is the moment you stop growing.
Stay confident. Stay humble. Never stop learning.
