Each week of the Season, for 10 Weeks, we will be selecting a "Good Iced Tea" WNC Player of the Week!
On Saturday's, @BBUniversityWNC emails all the Coaches in WNC encouraging them to nominate a Player that had the best performance of the week considering Stat Lines, the Competition, and the Significance of the game. The Player of the Week will be announced each Tuesday around Lunchtime.
The Week 1 "Good Iced Tea" Player of the game is 2028 C @YatesToney20 of Burns High School
Yates and the Bulldogs were immediately thrown into Conference Play and defeated a solid East Gaston team twice.
Yates was 6 for 7 with a HR, 5 Rs, 2 RBIS, a BB, HBP, and a SB in those two games.
He put up that hitting line against a solid East Gaston pitching staff that threw their top two starters at Burns (a Senior RHP in the mid 8s, and a crafty Senior LHP in the low 8s).
With the performance and the significance of the Conference games, it was a no-brainer to choose Yates who also threw out 2 runners on the basepaths trying to steal a base.
Congrats, Yates! We'll have your "Good Iced Tea" and your Player of the Week Certificate soon!
