Cllr. Patrick Quinlan
Cllr. Patrick Quinlan@PQuinlanNP·
"That Fingal County Council, recognising the severe cost-of-living pressures and extraordinary hardship currently being experienced by households, farmers, hauliers and businesses across Ireland amid rising fuel prices and the on-going national protests; 1) - Expresses its full support for the right of Irish people to engage in peaceful protest and acknowledges the genuine concerns being raised by protestors regarding fuel affordability and its impact on families and the wider economy; and 2) - Call on all independent TDs that are currently in government with FF/FG to withdraw their support for the government in light of their use of the Defence Forces against their own people." Rationale outlined below. This Emergency Motion cannot be dealt with by way of a Motion to an ordinary meeting of the Council or a Committee because the matters it addresses are urgent, on-going, and escalating in real time, giving rise to an unexpected and potentially dangerous situation that requires the Council’s immediate action within its statutory functions. The severe cost-of-living pressures and extraordinary hardship caused by sharply rising fuel prices are currently inflicting direct and immediate damage on households, farmers, hauliers, and businesses across Fingal County today. National protests reflecting these concerns are actively taking place and continue to intensify. At the same time, the Government has this week deployed the Defence Forces against its own people engaged in peaceful protest, an unprecedented step that has dramatically heightened tensions and raised serious questions about the right to protest and democratic norms. These events are not hypothetical or scheduled for some future date; they are unfolding now. A delay of even a few weeks would mean Fingal County Council would be responding after the immediate crisis has further worsened, after further hardship has been imposed on our residents and businesses, and after the national political situation has moved on without the Council’s voice being heard at the critical moment. The Standing Orders explicitly allow an Emergency Motion precisely for situations such as this "where the seriousness and imminence of the issue demand immediate action by the Council". This Motion meets those conditions because only an immediate expression of support and concern from the full Council can meaningfully address the current emergency facing the people of Fingal and the wider country. I therefore respectfully request that you as Chair accept this as a valid Emergency Motion under Standing Order 79. Regards, Cllr. Patrick Quinlan It was ruled out of order and I'm yet to receive a black and white reason as to why. The only response was a phone call earlier from the meeting’s administrator and an arbitrary excuse. I've asked and will keep asking that their reasoning to reject the motion be committed to hard copy and not some phone call that turns into a “he said, she said” exchange. In an unpublished video I made earlier this afternoon, I predicted that this Emergency Motion would be ruled out of order. Not that it was hard to foretell. The entrenched interests will not allow a Motion such as this on the agenda.

Tom O’Leary is the most mocking, condescending and BIAS prick I have ever come across. Boils my blood anytime Cllr Quinlan talks to him. He won’t be laughing after the next local election when NP cllr’s multiply.

"That's politics or whatever". Who elected these bureaucrats to be the final deciders of the will of elected councillors. I am the only councillor that is taking issue with this.

Cllr Patrick Quinlan @PQuinlanNP was the only councillor to correctly identify the ongoing fuel protests as the national issue that they are. While others are now jumping cautiously on the bandwagon, the National Party were the only party providing real tangible support on the ground, helping to keep the protestors supplied with food and drink etc.

Some updates from this morning over here in Tallaght. A massive thank you to the locals who gave out food and to our National Party DSW activists who raised well over €150 in meals and drinks for the farmers and hauliers!

If this poll is in any way accurate: 1. Fianna Fáil now have the least radical voter base in the country. 2. The government's hardline police-state tactics were not supported by public opinion as was presented. 3. The low number of “don't knows” suggests acute polarisation in Irish society. 4. Dissatisfaction is general among larger sections of the population. 5. The majority of people have no representation in the Irish media. 6. No token settlement can shore up the public's growing mistrust of the governing class.

The protest in the city centre today is being attended by members of the National Party’s Cork Cumann. Crowds are out in force again, with Irish people from all walks of life coming together and standing shoulder to shoulder. Support for these protests is only growing, despite the violent tactics used against peaceful protesters across the country by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
