Yes, the electoral system needs to change. That’s why we have been fighting for that for years. Until then, and even afterwards, with no clear majority party a multi-party system and the threat of Reform winning on 30%, we as progressives should come together or see our split vote bring Farage to n.10.

The ‘progressive left’ are always asking the Lib Dems & Greens to take an electoral hit so Labour can stay in power. Just ask Labour to change the voting system instead.

Wow. On Tuesday 107 MPs met frontline sewage campaigners, including those featured in Channel 4’s 'Dirty Business', to hear directly about their experience and what needs to change. Campaigners, including prominent figures like @Feargal_Sharkey, had one clear message: it’s time for public ownership.

It was clear at the time and now we have it in black and white: the Labour right shot itself in the foot by blocking Andy Burnham from standing in Gorton and Denton. All we have heard these past few weeks is that it was an unwinnable seat and Andy Burnham was done a favour by being blocked. But the arguments remain the same as they did before the by-election: he’s the most popular politician in the country, the only politician with a positive approval rating, and has a track record of delivering in the region. It was ludicrous then and it’s even more ludicrous now.

Surely a market led solution to Thames Water would be all its customers leaving for a non profit, effective water company, and the previous boards being investigated for wrecking the region's infrastructure to extract cash? So Thames Water is currently £20 billion in debt and turning that mess into a company that is £26.5 billion in debt we are being told, and are expected to believe, is rescuing it. It is nothing but brutalising customers even further and condemning them to even more decades of being fleeced by excessive interest payments. It's a shambles, govt needs to act.
