Tim, I’m not talking about CANCELLING Hasan Piker. He can say & do whatever he wants. I’m talking about CONDEMNING him. Loudly. Repeatedly. And if we can’t condemn an America-hating, Jew-hating Communist, then there’s no one to condemn. And Tim, wtf, you say the “whole country is moving Piker’s way on Israel & America,” so we all just gotta embrace his - antisemitic, America-hate, Communist dictator-love, Jew-hate - viewpoint becuz we’re all part of a pro-democracy big tent? Look, I’m all about a big tent. That’s part of why I became a Dem. But fuck a big tent with an antisemitic, America-blaming bigot like that. I don’t want in that tent. Just like if I were still a Republican, I wouldn’t want in a tent with Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens, or Tucker Carlson. Dang Tim. And if as you intimate the whole country is becoming anti-Israel, so we should too? Fuck that. So if the whole country was becoming pro-Putin, we should too? Bcuz that’s where the voters are? Fuck that. The @BulwarkOnline needs to do some real soul-searching. Quickly. I mean, what the heck do you even stand for anymore at The Bulwark? You’d lock arms with Piker to defend democracy? Would you lock arms with Candace Owens to defend democracy? Ok. Back to my Good Friday fast.
personally I am team #bigtent, but if we're gonna start kicking people out of the party on brand/moral grounds I would like to nominate 1) the foreign policy team behind the Gaza genocide, and 2) every Dem former elected/staffer who takes a cushy job with an overtly evil company
Now, to be clear, I'm not telling Dems to "moderate." That's a separate conversation than, "Please don't let social media prominence convince you that what Democrats ~actually~ need to do is to be more beholden to tankies."
Here's another hard truth: Hasan's audience is overwhelmingly made up of pathetic, insufferable losers, and a not insignificant part of the Democratic brand problem is median voters thinking that Dems care too much about insufferable losers.
rashida tlaib is a much better candidate to reach rightly jaded voters and would have a nationwide zohran effect. and if name rec is a hollow objection, keep in mind that when bernie was really on fire in 2016, he was less of a known celebrity politician than aoc is now
