#OTD in 2016, #HurricaneMatthew was located over the #LucayanArchipelago having left behind a decimated #Haiti. Matthew killed over 700 people and was responsible for $16.5 billion in monetary losses.

#OTD in 2024, #TyphoonKrathon was coming off its peak causing panic in #Taiwan; a #Category4 #Typhoon was heading their way. Krathon earned its retirement after becoming the 7th wettest #TropicalCyclone on Taiwanese soil.

#OTD in 1965: Our main focus for today is #TyphoonMary. This storm, although having weakened substantially before landfall, inflicted much damage in #Taiwan and also later on, in #China.

#OTD in 2024: Our main focus for today is #HurricaneDebby, which caused #Tornadoes in the US and insane amounts of #Rainfall in #Canada. The storm is currently the 5th wettest in Canadian history.

#OTD in 2020: Our main focus for today is #HurricaneIsaias. An East Coast Hurricane to bump off the major US Impacts of 2020's season, putting the @ForceThirteen team in a #CodeRed on #TCOS.

#OTD in 1979: Our main focus for today is #TyphoonHope, which slammed #HongKong and #China with huge swaths of intense winds. The storm killed 112 people and the damages are Unknown.

#OTD in 2023: Our main focus for today is #TyphoonKhanun, which was leaving its peak intensity in the #EastChinaSea. The system would go on to bring days of impacts to #Okinawa, the #KoreanPeninsula, and parts of eastern #China—lingering longer than most #typhoons.

#OTD in 2024, #HurricaneBeryl was making landfall in #Carriacou Island, killing 6. The storm devastated the isle and later that week attained Category 5 intensity.

#OTD in 2004, Typhoon #Nida was reaching an extraordinary peak intensity, off the coast of #Samar in The #Philippines. Nida would remain a strong #SuperTyphoon offshore, before turning away from the islands and weakening as it sped towards #Japan.

#OTD in 2011, #TropicalStormAere effected the Philippines, killing 48 people and causing $34 million in damages. The name 'Aere' was not retired.

#OTD in 2008, #CycloneNargis struck the #Ayeyarwady Region of #Burma near #Yangon, inflicting catastrophic destruction and causing 138,373 fatalities; it was the fifth-deadliest tropical cyclone on record.

#OTD in 2023, #CycloneIlsa was bearing down on Western Australia's coast. Ilsa caused 8 fatalities and ≥$10.2 million in total damages.

#OTD in 2017, The well-known #CycloneDebbie was peaking while it was approaching the coast of #QueenslandAustralia. The #storm later became the second-costliest tropical cyclone in the #Australian region basin on #record.

#OTD in 1994, a very interesting storm (#CycloneTomas) was active in the #SouthPacificOcean - west of #Fiji, the storm became a #Category3 before weakening very rapidly.

#OTD in 2015, #CyclonePam was a very strong powerhouse cyclone nearby #Vanuatu. Pam caused a disaster for the nation and resulted in the deaths of 16 people across its entire track.

#OTD in 2023, #CycloneKevin was lurking near #NewCaledonia as a Category 4 major cyclone in the South Pacific. As a result of the impacts in #Vanuatu, the name Kevin was retired after the season, and it will never be used again for a tropical cyclone in the basin.

#OTD in 2022, #CycloneVernon was reaching a brief Category 4 peak (SSHWS). It tracked in a circle before dissipating to the south.

#OTD in 1983, #CycloneNisha-Orama was peaking at Category 5 intensity, at a #monstrous 190mph / 886mb out in the South Pacific.

#OTD in 2016, #CycloneWinston was reaching it's first peak at category 4 intensity (SSHWS) near #Vanuatu. Winston's full path was very erratic and resulted in a Category 5 landfall in #Figi. The storm killed 44 people and became the 3rd costliest SPAC storm on record. ($1.4 bil)
