If they signed Guehi for 20m no one would care what happened to Konate at the end of his contract. But since they didn't sign Guehi, they cannot let konate leave for free. Hence the contract and payrise.

If ur tall & athletic you could pick up basketball in five years and become on the level of the pro by 19.
You can’t start playing football at the age of 15 and then become a professional. It’s just not easy to do.
