#Ruth asserts that the worst of times are not wasted in God’s plans and purposes. Famine, death, barrenness, vulnerability, grief are the seedbed for hope, fulfilment and witnessing God work His plans and purposes. Don’t despair, remain faithful and wait #DailyReadings

The depth of the sin in Israel during the days of the #Judges is revolting. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes. The remedy, according to the narrator, is a king—but not just any king. A perfectly righteous and just king. One we know as Jesus #DailyReadings

Micah set up an idol in his home. While many Christian’s might scoff at this, there are idols standing tall in our hearts, minds and lives which we believe are invisible—but they’re not. Let’s examine ourselves and remove the idols that endanger us #Judges #DailyReadings

God, in his grace and before Israel even called out to him, sent them a rescuer—Samson. But Samson’s life revealed that he was not THE rescuer to come! Israel needed someone righteous for a true and full salvation #Judges #DailyReadings

Although frustrating, there is something hugely encouraging about God using someone as flawed as Jephthah to serve his people. We are just as flawed but God can also use us #Judges #DailyReadings

The wicked Abimelech was stopped by having his skull crushed. This seems to echo the promise of victory in Genesis 3:15 and foreshadow the fulfilment of it in Jesus #Judges #DailyReadings

This is a useful volume on eldership. It’s biblically grounded, practically realistic, & appropriately challenging. Good for both leaders & members to read.

Books on conversion are not aplenty, which is a shame. This is certainly among the best, however. The chapter titles alone provide a simple but robust theology of conversion. Yet more excellent work from 9Marks and Crossway.

@Travis__Hood I am therefore grateful that the likes of @9Marks are incorporating more global voices in their publishing and groups like @pillarnetwork are increasingly sensitive to cultural and contextual issues.

@Travis__Hood None of this is to blame the US and brothers and sisters there. I think we, in the rest of the world, have been too unthinking in consuming content that is US specific.

Gideon and his 300 men, with nothing but torches and trumpets in their hands, defeated the Midianite horde because salvation belongs to the LORD. Yet another glimpse of gospel hope in the Old Testament #Judges #DailyReadings

Singing in response to salvation has a long history, as Barak and Deborah demonstrate—and there are earlier examples in biblical history. God’s people are to be people of song, especially because of what he has done #Judges #DailyReadings

The Christian life is not all that different from the cycle in #Judges. We cry out to God; He hears and answers our prayers; we become complacent and sin; He disciplines us with the consequences of our sin; we cry out to God; and the cycle commences again #DailyReadings
