I came to this land a stranger to many of you, probably most of you. I came here alone and unsure of the man I was and unsure of the man I should be.
Despite the hates in my heart and the rages in my soul I found something here that I haven’t felt in a long time. It’s tempting to monologue about my legacy, to tell tales of my exploits but this isn’t a story about me, or you or anyone of us. This is a story about found family.
About Community.
It is true that community isn’t free in the strictest sense. Community costs something. It costs time, it costs compassion, and it costs a good will toward people who may not extend that same grace to you. But in that sense community is the only thing in this world that is free. It is the love that can’t come from money. It can’t come from power or magic. It is the gift that can only exist in our hearts to be shared freely with those we care for.
It may be that we will all diverge on the path moving forward into the dark woods of our future, but remember that your time here, when life feels mercurial or temporary, when solitude feels is your only companion, remember this : You were never never truly alone.
All of us are but fleeting fireflies in those dark woods but our memories are forever, and community is always just around the next bend, waiting for you to shine together in the cold dark. Waiting for you to take that leap of faith. Join hands and build it together.
