It's partially why I go so hard for new gory movies. They're kind of the only ones where the focus is "look at this crazy thing! How did we do that?" instead of "here's the seventh scene of someone walking around in the (poorly-lit) quiet. When's the jumpscare gonna happen?"

The fun, low/mid-budget special effects spectacle horror film is my absolute favorite kind of movie. It's why I wanted to get into filmmaking and I'm bummed every day they aren't really made anymore.

Significant improvement over the last “Pat Boone cover song” of a season.
All the parts people will call too slow are the better parts.
Kinda shows “gritty” violence with the same vibe as when a youth pastor swears.

Hot take, but 2010-2012 was basically a 2000's hangover. The 2010's culturally and technologically didn't kick off until about 2013.
It was commonplace to see people still using flip phones and watching on CRT's in 2012. Landlines just started being phased out and frutiger aero was still everywhere. Not to mention the dark, gritty urban nature of the 2000's was still lingering.

But it really felt that the moneyball of everything behind the scenes handcuffed Watts into stuffing his sequels with enough Marvel Disney owned characters that Holland’s version needed them.

@Daboyui I always wished FFH and NWH had as much thematic through-line with Field Trips/Abroad Study, and the transitionary hurdles from high school to college as the first one had.
This seems to balance the Spidey living in Marvel’s NYC with the human struggles.
