I admire the courage of people protesting the ICE raids in California. I'm against violent protests and think they're counterproductive. I also think that non-violent protests send a more powerful and enduring message. Have long believed in Dr. King's message about using non-violent resistance. That said, I also hope everyone protesting stays safe. This is a long struggle, and there are many ways to support immigrants beyond what's happening right now in the streets. You can volunteer with pro-immigrant organizations, offer material aid, or even pursue a career in immigration law. I share your anger and believe we can channel this energy into something that makes meaningful change for immigrants. But to do that, you have to stay safe.

I had a realization this morning: The Covid-conscious might be the most well-prepared group on the planet for what’s coming next. While Americans mourn the loss of democracy, we grieved the loss of humanity long ago. We don’t live in la-la land. We’ve watched you hit the same walls, wind each other up, and do it again. We saw the politics and dark money behind the great disappearing act—how the pandemic was erased from sight while you cheered the illusion of normalcy. A return to selfishness disguised as moving on. We’ve already seen the underbelly of evil. And no, your Ozempic injections didn’t make you thin enough to slip from view. Our memory of your betrayal? Crystal clear. Because we haven’t been breathing the same unfiltered air. We’re just the right amount of jaded.
