@NextGenTories Problem is, if you propose policies to address this (usually imposing penalties on older people) then Tories lose double the votes they gain

@s8mb I think for energy that is fair enough. It's an essential. I would extend that to housing. I wouldn't extend it to football or sport

This regulator is such an “own goal”. This stuff is such an obvious slippery slope to more direct price controls and DEI requirements. And as Paul suggests, the govt will be politically on the hook now for anything that goes wrong in football, as in energy. Another doom spiral.
Paul Goodman@PaulGoodmanCH

@premierleague @EFL 5) The Regulaor will require clubs to provide “effective engagement” with fans on changes to ticket prices - and publish what action they’re taking on diversity, equality and inclusion as part of reporting against a new corporate governance code...

@MartinSLewis You should split this between renters, mortgagors and own outright. The results will be very different

@JackBMontgomery @AaronBastani More impact than some of the other things I've seen. The swing states were minus 3 from Biden and she lost 6 across the board, so the campaign had a plus 3 impact. Not saying the billion dollars was well spent btw

Not seen this before. Really shocking from @dannydorling's 'Seven Children'. Average height of five-year-old boys, 1985–2020

@Sacha_Lord I don't mind it if it keeps the pub open, and means the beer is cheaper at other times

Just been made aware of a bar in Soho, that's started dynamic pricing. It's an extra £2 (£9.40) for a pint after 10pm. This new idea of dynamic pricing is ridiculous, greedy and needs calling out. Very short sighted.

Only the three attempts by right wingers to get me fired this morning. Sad stuff, but inevitable nowadays. I will resist. Anonymity would bring benefits but I learn more by being open about what I think and what I do. I hope Britain remains a culture that broadly welcomed debate.

@StuartMaggs It's very hard to sympathise with a person who starts a hypothetical with "if I own an asset worth £5m"...

More thoughts on the #FamilyFarmTax. The alleged purpose is to attack ultra-wealthy people investing in farms. If I own a 400 acre/£5m farm, I need to keep it intact as a single agricultural unit. It is difficult to plan to avoid the £735,000 charge triggered when I die. I own 10 x 400 acre farms, I can give half of them away when I'm alive, survive seven years and avoid £5m of tax while still enjoying a pretty good lifestyle. Much larger farms have scope to sensibly structure themselves and avoid a lot of this tax. A single family farm will really struggle. This is a poorly thought-out policy which needs to be changed.

@GP_Marks @sam_bidwell Yep, and one cheap way to form alliances with rich and powerful nations is through these kinds of cultural ties. I.e. soft power 👌

@sam_bidwell Exactly, Trump loves Britain. He talked about it many times. It's a great opportunity to strengthen ties between the UK and the US. I hope the British government will use it wisely.

Here - again, there are no "missing 15 million votes". Raw turnout will be close to '20. Turnout was strong. More votes were cast than '20 in almost every BG state. Harris underperformend Biden by about 1.6 pts on avg in the BG states. Small shifts resulted in a Trump win.
Nate Cohn@Nate_Cohn

Our last estimate for the final turnout in the presidential election is 157.5 million, almost matching 2020 in raw votes though falling a tick lower as share of eligible voters, given population growth.
