Racism has no place in our Union or anywhere else. 60 years ago, the international community adopted the first global treaty to eliminate racial discrimination. Since then, this commitment has guided collective action to advance equality, human rights and a rules-based international order. Protecting minorities and combating racism reduces tensions and polarisation, strengthens resilience against conflict, manipulation and disinformation, and reinforces democratic values. Last night, Russia launched another large-scale attack against Ukraine’s energy system and civilian infrastructure. These systematic and deliberate strikes against civilians are unacceptable. Targeting energy infrastructure is a cynical attempt to terrorise the Ukrainian people. The EU stands firmly with Ukraine. Together with our international partners, we will continue to support the repair, rebuilding, and protection of Ukraine’s energy system. Russia’s aggression will not prevail. We support all efforts toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine.

The EU and Switzerland are trusted partners. It was a pleasure to be in Zurich to sign with @ignaziocassis new agreements deepening the EU’s foreign and security policy ties with Switzerland. These will allow for regular high-level political dialogues and simplify procedures for Swiss personnel joining EU missions. Together with Defence Minister Martin Pfister, we held the first such dialogue.

We stand before an opportunity. Europe can step onto the global stage united and strong, or resign ourselves to the sidelines. Paraphrasing Winston Churchill in June 1940, this may not be Europe’s finest hour, but it is Europe’s hour of decision. My remarks at the Churchill Lecture in Zurich ↓
