You know, it takes a lot of energy to stay small.
To bite your tongue when you know you have more to say.
To play down your wins so other people don’t feel uncomfortable.
To aim lower than you’re capable of so you don’t attract attention, judgment, or responsibility.
Staying small isn’t passive, it's not easy, it’s real work.
It’s constant self-editing. Constant justification. Constant negotiating with the part of you that knows you could do more, build more, become more.
Playing small doesn’t actually protect you, it just drains you, because that energy has to go somewhere.
We both know, if it’s not being used to create, it’s being used to suppress, and if it’s not being used to build, it’s being used to manage fear, doubt, and other people’s expectations.
Do you ever wake up with low-grade exhaustion? Do you go about your day with quiet frustration, and do you ever get a sense of “I should be further than this”?
That’s the cost of playing small.
Growth takes work, but so does being small.
At some point on your journey, just the moment before you give up, you'll realize that it takes less energy to be who you actually are than to keep pretending you’re not.
And in that moment you stop trying to be small, you'll become honest with yourself and with what you're truly capable of.
So make today, the day you realize the only reason you're not where you want to be is because you chose to remain small, and once you do that, you'll realize that you also have the choice to play big.
We only have one life to live, make it count, make it worth something, make it memorable, make it amazing, make it into a story that's going to be read for 1,000 years.
