Certain trees thrive together for a healthier overall ecosystem. Oak and hazel, alder and willow, pine and birch to name a few. We would love to hear your experiences with tree species combinations that thrive together. Join us in the comments or send us a message.  #farmforest

Different trees for different soil types.  Depending on the soil, you will find some trees fare better than others. We would love to hear what trees you have planted, on what types of soils and if you would recommend them to others.  #farmforest

Integrating trees and diverse plants on your farm can improve soil health, attract pollinators, and support local wildlife. A healthy ecosystem benefits the entire farm. Have you taken steps to increase biodiversity on your farm?  #farmforest

How can you create a biodiversity haven on your land? In this guide, we cover using protection, creating open spaces and incorporating deadwood. Do you have any advice you would add to this list for other farmers or landowners?  #farmforest

Do you have to cover the cost of replanting after harvesting? Yes, the private owner bares the cost of replanting. However, keep in mind this tends to only be a fraction of what is made through harvesting. Have you a question on Irish forestry grants? #farmforest

Can the Native Tree Area Grant be Combined with Truffle Farming? Yes, once the forester signs off on the trees and saplings being used that should be no problem. Have a question? Join the conversation in the comments, or send us a direct message. #farmforest

Hugh Barrett spoke in our latest episode about working with a forester to carry out planting & the first four years of forest management. After that the responsibility is on the farmer, and many take on a hands-on approach. What was your experience managing forestry? #farmforest

Do animals need to be relocated for forestry grants? In agroforestry schemes animals can stay. For all other forestry schemes grazing isn’t allowed while premiums are being drawn down. Have you a question on Irish forestry grants? #farmforest

Have you had support from a Farm Advisor who was able to flag where a new scheme could fit within your farms system?  Would this help you consider implementing one of the Irish Forestry Schemes? Join the conversation in the comments or send us a direct message. #farmforest

In Ireland the The Native Tree Area Scheme is for the creation of small native woodlands of up to one hectare. This newer scheme is designed for people looking to begin forestry and gain experience on a small scale. In this post we are talking about N.T.A. 1. #farmforest

Restoring faith in forestry. Our episode with James Breslin last year stands out to us. In it he said “bureaucracy did a lot of damage to people inclined to do the right thing”. Real conversations are needed to help restore faith in forestry.  Let us know your thoughts!
