@CdnFootyMK It really is sad. I don’t know where the resources will come from to repair this. The effects of this senseless act will have ripple effects. People can be so ignorant.

@FcQuw That’s infuriating. We’ve had similar things happen in comox in the past. Senseless destruction and I hope you find the people that did this

@CookStreetUtd We don’t expect to see it open anytime soon up here. The First Nation communities are keeping things pretty locked down, we were lucky to be given the green light to bring teams to our fields. It’s been closed since March here. We dream of the day 🤩😅.

@FcQuw Our futsal season also got cancelled of course. It's hard on the soles playing too often though. Let's just hope things are open again by January 🤞

I’m going to say it’s really frustrating to have beautiful fields that are unable to be used during the dark months. It’s been 10 weeks since we’ve been able to train and are unable to use fields that all seem to be booked by our neighbour. Covid has made shared space tricky too.

@FcQuw Time to expand then🎈 Oak Bay is nice, but pretty small for a team our size and tactically limiting. It also got closed this week

@CookStreetUtd We have our own indoor facility, but it’s shut down due to COVID. This is what the inside of the building next to our fields normally looks like 😫. It’s filled with Quw’utsun youth, men and women from open until close. We miss it!

@FcQuw We had the exact same problems. Literally the only place we could get was Oak Bay Indoor. Eventually UVic opened up this week so we got a slot there, but then the policy changed of course. The struggle is real!

Our masks came in tonight and they turned out GREAT!!

@CoachLaxton We’ve played on it a few times and it’s a beautiful field, but yes, quite narrow.

@FcQuw Good luck! My only suggestion is to ensure you check the dimensions of the field before it is finished. The Musqueam field is the narrowest field in the Province...

Have any clubs recently installed a turf field and could provide a general idea of the cost behind such a project?

@CoachLaxton We are looking go reach out to them, as we are friends with a few involved. What I have heard is that island fields are a big pricier 🤷🏻‍♀️

@FcQuw There is a turf field built by the Musqueam community in their community. They manage and rent it to other user groups. They might be a good group to ask...

@CookStreetUtd It sounds like a huge chunk of money, but potentially something that other local organizations could also make use of and therefor have rental income 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

@FcQuw I couldn't help but look up a quote for this a little while ago. Bare minimum for just the turf itself is $350k. Then need to factor in labour and countless other costs so I'm guessing that's where the $1m comes in

@noname_actual We normally use indoor space, unfortunately this heat it’s been a hard no from facilities (including our own gym which is next to our field).

@FcQuw 8-10 years is my understanding. Although it feels like Finlayson is going on about 20 years.

@DDaveyspencer Any chance you know much about the lifespan of this investment? I’ve heard rumours that they need to be redone every 10 years, but don’t see any substance behind that?

@FcQuw Peninsula has been saving up. It’s likely close to $2Mil for our two main fields, and a warm-up field. We already have the levelled field and lights.
