@JuliaManhattan Cute kicker: "Asked how he felt about the achievement, Noguchi replied, “'I feel I’ve outsmarted Mr. Moses, is what I feel.'” But is it true? Did he outsmart Mr. Moses? Most of Noguchi's ideas didn't get built (& hooray that his crazy plans for Central Park remained unrealized).

"But they do it in Europe." A glimpse into NYC's future with so-called "Empire Bins" (aka big gray dumpsters) on the street.

Scorched Earth at St Ann's Warehouse is magnificent. The nyt says: "Passionate feelings about land and the right to its ownership figure in this dance-theater work by the Irish choreographer Luke Murphy (“Volcano”)." Extraordinary dance.

Boston. 4-5 storeys, terraced houses, no setback. Recessed doorway up a few steps, creating privacy for the ground floor and a covered entrance – an interesting local detail. Beautiful street furniture, brick paving matching the buildings, no road markings, graceful locust trees. Very simple 'vernacular classical' architecture: brick, sash windows, louvred shutters, masonry lintels, just a few touches of punctuating ornament. Unlike most American cities, Boston does not have a consistent grid plan. Grids have many advantages, but the more varied street network of Boston does tend to give individual streets a stronger particular identity.

I've been reading the classics nonstop for months and I swear I can feel it healing my brain from the fracture of the last 10 years. All of it. Austen, Alcott, Bronte x2, RLS, Shelley, Tolstoy, Thackeray. It's like different flavors of some magic potion.

Insane how you can just read the books and writings from the greatest minds to have ever graced this earth. In all of human history it has never been easier to do this. Still, most people will never even bother.

Your plan to dump taxpayer-subsidized supermarkets into in minority communities is a pathetic display of economic ignorance. By rigging the market with public funds, you are actively trying to bankrupt the Dominican Supermarket Association and the independent owners who have spent decades serving thier community. This isn't 'help, it's a socialist assault on local entrepreneurs. Expect a massive legal backlash against your blatant anti-capitalist agenda.
