@GCWargaming

I'm a Marine veteran and a student finishing my master's in History. War games can be just as effective as an instructor in class. See you on the field.

No flowery narrative necessary. Just cold steel and clean graphics. #WargameDesignStudios did it again, releasing American Revolutionary War from the Musket & Pike Series. I’m playing as the Americans in the first scenario of the Battle for Brandywine Creek campaign, and just wow. One difference is the small-unit organization of most American forces. I’m utilizing the open order mechanic a lot more; it helps avoid disruption as you maneuver through the forest with bigger units. Super cool. Just a quick comment on the detail: the first image shows an unidentified, possible Royal Marine unit. Their cover is unique, as shown in both the unit card and the 3D view. I recognized it in the release of War of the Austrian Succession, which distinguished regiments by their cuff color and cover lining. This is the gold standard of war games. Not to mention, they released the Crusade series on Steam today. Cheers. #AmericanRevolutionaryWar #WarGame #History

The definitive operations/tactics Revolutionary War wargame is here! 🇺🇸🇬🇧 Wargame Design Studio has released 'American Revolutionary War.' This isn't just a port of the old titles—it’s a total ground-up redo on the modern Musket & Pike engine with new maps, OOBs, and mechanics like Open Order. Most excitingly, it features the stunning, historically accurate "Soldier Study" artwork by the legendary Don Troiani. A must-play for hardcore grognards. Details here: wargameds.com/blogs/news/ame…

Another update is live for #ArmoredBrigadeII. The game keeps getting better, not to mention the incorporation of FPV mode. Veitikka Studios, my dudes, thank you. Sometimes I come home and just need to fly FPV drones into armored vehicles. I’m a loyal player from here on out. I tested the new update with a scenario-generated mission in Plzen, playing as the Brits. Went in with a company of mechanized infantry, accompanied by a tank platoon and some scouts. I took no support elements, no anti-air or CAS, and paid for it, as seen by the uncountered SU-23 strikes on my columns moving east along the roads. Lesson learned. Spent the remainder dismounted. #MatrixGames #WarGames #ColdWar

Thirty Years' War from #WargameDesignStudio received a new facelift alongside the Sword and Siege series. Gave it a try and was thoroughly impressed. The new 'column of march' addition is awesome. I thought there was a problem with the pathfinding, but when I activated the column-of-march mechanic under the “Command” menu, it worked like a charm. The infantry regiment separates into two marching columns, one following the other. You can also select the battalion or division commander, choose the same order, which filters down to subordinate units. The graphical additions to unit icons are also amazing. Look out for the Sword & Siege series entering the Steam arena in late April. #ThirtyYearsWar #WarGames #History

@GCWargaming I did a map of Ivankiv, Ukraine for AB1. Trying to find time to polish it up and upload to AB2’s Workshop.

Playing a generated mission in the Ardennes with the “Special Military Operation” mod, by a creator whose name I wish I could pronounce. It's good; the visuals were awesome. I imagine using the April Fools (FPV mode) along with this mod and an Eastern European map, which could add another layer to this increasingly kick ass combat simulator.   #ArmoredBrigadeII #WarGames #MatrixGames

@TboneWargames @GCWargaming Once you get the scripting down in the Mission Editor the dynamic changes. We just ran an op over on a Discord where I was able to script the AI side. It was fun for all. @GCWargaming where on the Gulf coast are you? I'm 3 hours north of the MS GC.

I love the random scenario generator for Armored Brigade II, not to mention their newly released expansion, Scandinavia. Picked a random location in the Plzen Region of the Czech Republic, which led to an epic trek with a battalion-sized element of American stormtroopers. It's not as quick-paced as Broken Arrow, which is how I prefer to play. #ColdWar #ArmoredBrigadeII #WarGames

Twenty minutes into my last session of Sea Power, I realized I needed their soundtrack playing in the background for my next school presentation. Maybe they'll make an exception for a crazy vet; fingers crossed. Weirdness aside, in this scenario, I’m chasing a Russian fleet through the Aegean with USS Wisconsin in vanguard. Wisconsin is a beast, capable of throwing 406mm shells and Tomahawks into whatever unfortunate land target I come across. However, I carelessly threw my A-7s and Prowlers into the right flank of the Kiev-class carrier battle group. It was over in seconds as the last image foreshadows. Semper Fidelis to all who serve on the sea, especially our brave young sailors and airmen actively living these scenarios on the other side of the world. #ColdWar #StrategyGame #NavalCombat

Task Force Admiral gives me goosebumps. It makes me realize how incredibly brave pilots had to be to dive on a Japanese carrier while engulfed in heavy anti-aircraft fire, almost like a scene from Dante's Inferno. Hats off to @DrydockDreams for creating a fantastic Pacific WWII simulator. #TaskForceAdmiral #WWII #MicroPose #History

Been playing WDS games for years, but I’m only now jumping into the campaigns. The first campaign starts at the siege of Acre. For the first time, I actually feel like I’m leading a siege. It's 1189, and I’m guiding the Army of Jerusalem through Guy of Lusignan. We’re further broken down into battle divisions. The Pisan division under Archbishop Lanfranchi assaulted the south gate with archers and crossbowmen in the van, followed closely by infantry with ladders. The ladder function kicks ass. Meanwhile, the 2nd Battle Division, led by Theobald V of Blois, took out the defenders on the weakest part of the wall, St. Anthony’s Gate in the north, and they’re now fighting to hold the gate so Theobald can run the rest of his division through. #SecondCrusade #WarGames

#WargameDesignStudio just dropped Crusades Book II. I’m playing the first scenario, Battle of Inab, as the Zengid Muslim army led by the fierce Nur al-Din Zengi. The Crusaders hold the town of Inab, which I can’t breach with the massive amount of mounted warriors and no siege equipment, at least not yet. At the start, I had my mounted columns concentrate on Inab, but one of my divisions spotted a substantial Crusader force stranded in a valley NE of Inab. I immediately rerouted all columns to converge on this force, resulting in butchery. I have too many divisions closing in on the south for them to escape to Inab from there; however, they could breach my northern line, held by a small division under Al-Mustarshid. Stunning graphics, more command options, and unit cards that would make Prince Raymond and Nur al-Din blush with pride. Semper Fi.

Doryleaum 1097 Marching SW on the road from Nicaea, Bohemund’s column encounters a massive Seljuk force composed mainly of horse archers. I immediately sent my knights, led by Hugh the Mad, on a shock charge, hoping to stagger the initial onslaught and give my infantry some time to form a defensive line resembling a horseshoe. I’m lucky I got hit where I did; there's a large marsh to the north and a stream and some heights to the south, which hem in my little force to a point I can actually defend, at least until the main body catches up. I have a small detachment of Byzantine infantry and archers, led by Tatikios, that serves as my rear guard. I used his imperial troopers to stack on the stream, anchoring my right flank. Turn 16 unleashed Count Robert of Flanders and his knights, whom I initially sent down the west side of the stream to ‘feel’ for the Seljuk left; however, scouts from the heights overlooking the marsh caught the first sight of an even larger Seljuk right riding hard for my rear and hoping to cut me off from the Crusader main body. That requires immediate attention by Count Robert. I’ve read a lot of primary sources on the #FirstCrusade; my favorites are Gesta Francorum by Anonymous (probably a French knight), and The Book of Contemplation by Usama ibn Munqidh. There’s nothing like synthesizing those accounts with a simulator like #WargameDesignStudio.

In our first blog post of 2026, we dive into the Anatomy of a Siege — a guided tour of how siege warfare plays across four WDS series and nearly a millennium of war. Storm stone walls with towers, rams, sappers and a short preview of the upcoming ladders mechanic in Sword & Siege: Crusades Book II; grind through Petersburg’s trench lines in Civil War Battles; fight room-to-room among rubble and cellars in Squad Battles’ Stalingrad-style city sieges; then zoom out in Panzer Campaigns to encirclements, relief attempts, isolation, and final collapse. See why sieges feel so different—yet oddly familiar. wargameds.com/blogs/news/ana…
