@CorenLaVolpe and the first one is kinda like Denji Chainsawman in the fact that she doesn't have agency until the ending parts where she's at her lowest and hallucinates Sonic giving her a motivational speech so she can help defeat the bad guy (trust me this makes sense)

@pjharpy @muaddibstyle like, it can become a myth but it is currently a rumor like how one can tell a rumor about a creature in a cave then hundreds of years later it becomes a myth, it's simply not aged enough like making wine if that makes sense

@pjharpy @muaddibstyle the Chupacabra is a cryptid which is an animal who's existance hasn't been proven which is not a mythical creature. a Myth is a traditional story, typically folklore, a rumor is an untraditional story that can take inspiration from folklore. i'm not good at explaining things

@muaddibstyle the way I'd describe nearly all americana fantasy setdressing is more based on "rumor" than myth. cryptids, aliens, witches, ghosts or lost ancient Native American grounds. this is probably due to how young the US is and the time it was made not being very "fantasy" like

@strppngyngthng @C_U271D i feel like US fantasy pretty much has like, mostly aliens and cryptids (cryptids aren't monsters they're animals that haven't been proven to exist) and ghosts so a proper US fantasy would be more about rumors than myths. when thinking about it, i imagine the Goosbumps books tbh

The problem with "Americana-inspired fantasy" is that America was founded long after the time when myths and legends were taken genuinely seriously, even things like tall tales and fearsome critters were more tongue-in-cheek and not really meant to be believed.
