A sensible government would have given orders to have all dormitories in Kenya remove all grills from the windows ,and made them wide enough to fit a grown adult.made the doors open outwards and unlockable from the outside . A fire extinguisher at every station and at least a fire escape. We also live in times were smoke detectors are a real thing .

Kyanguli happened when I was in high school, by the next term all windows grills and inside door locks had been removed, and protocols put in place on how to exit the dorms in an emergency. Two decades later we're still seeing these avoidable disasters. It's sad.

During my time in secondary school the unfortunate Bombolulu tragedy happened and after discussing it with vus in our weekly forum this made Griffin review for safety measures which were already in place to ensure all dormitories had fire escapes and that the doors were left unlocked if the couldn't be open from the inside. This was about 30 years ago and it's sad to see dormitory fires with students unable to escape
