@victorkafati @HuntersOfNazis The violence began in April 1920 in Jerusalem when Arabs launched the Nebi Musa riot. 9 years later was the Hebron Massacre where Arabs murdered 67 Jews. After that the state (which belonged to BOTH groups) was split. Jews accepted it peacefully, Muslims didn't and waged war.

Which war? 1956, 1967, and 1982 were initiated by Israel. 1948 was the war around Israel’s creation and the Nakba. 1973 was Egypt and Syria trying to retake land lost in 1967. Blaming “the Muslims” is a grotesque conflation of a religion with multiple states and military decisions.

Did you know how absurd the UN’s anti-Jew fixation gets? Here’s a ‘fun’ fact about the so-called “settler violence”: When Jews visit their holiest site, the Temple Mount, the United Nations logs it as “settler violence.” Not attacks, not riots, not actual violence—just Jews being guilty for the crime of existing. Even when they are literally the ones assaulted for trying to pray, it still gets recorded the same way: Jewish mere existence is violence. And this is not fringe or isolated. There are OVER 1,300 such “incidents” in UN records, including cases of tourists visiting the site, it gets recorded as “settler violence.” At that point, ‘violence’ is simply being redefined to mean “I’m triggered by Jewish existence.” If that’s not a classic blood libel, what is?

@Andr3jH China is capitalist when someone points at its growth. China is communist when someone proposes adopting its policies. The label doesn't describe the system. It describes which argument you're trying to win at that moment.

@reddit_lies It should also be noted that slowed scientific progression was also caused in part by the Black Death, which would've still spread if the Roman Empire never fell (if anything the Black Death would've spread faster if Europe was more united under one empire)

@EYakoby Pro-terrorist defenders in the comments are demonstrating that they have no understanding of what is or isn't exceptional in warfare. Remember: More German civilians than UK civilians died in WW2.

BREAKING: Hamas has released an updated casualty list, and it completely vindicates Israel. The majority of casualties were military-aged men. If Israel were indiscriminately bombing Gaza, we'd see equal distribution. Another one of Gaza's viral lies, debunked.

@ShitpostRock Status effects in a turn-based RPG that cause a character to lose multiple turns. A single-turn Stun is fine. An enemy using one action to deny your Healer of their next four actions is not.

I've never been part of that kind of political bubble, but I have been inside similar ones in the corporate world. At a certain level, being in that bubble is almost a requirement for success. You have to repeat the right slogans. You have to say the right words. You have to come up with the right indices and follow through on them. You have to protect everyone's ego. It seems obvious to everyone outside that bubble but to those inside it, they really do believe the words they're repeating because the system rewards them for that belief. It takes an epistemic rupture and getting pushed out. For you, that was being attacked for showing Hurricane Helene damage. For me, that was trying to advance a particular tech vision. It'll take trial and error to operationalize more Matt van Swols, but there is a way.

This is painful to write, but I need to get it out... For years, my “news” came almost entirely from left-leaning podcasts and media outlets. The other day I scrolled back through my podcast history from that era and it honestly made my stomach drop. Thousands of hours of my life, just gone. Hours I’ll never get back, the vast majority of it I know now wasn’t even information… it was just propaganda packaged as news. I’m writing this because I want to warn you, because I wish someone had warned me. It’s hard to explain to people who haven’t lived inside it just how insanely bubble-like the grip on your perception of reality becomes. How it doesn’t feel AT ALL like you’re being shaped to think a certain way, it just feels like you’re being informed and in the process... you feel morally superior and smarter than "them" (the conservatives). For me the routine was simple: A couple minutes of CNN with my morning coffee. A “breaking news” push notification from the NYT. Pod Save America or The Daily on my commute. They all said the same stuff!!! Same framing. Same villains. Same moral conclusions from the news. It's literally the right-wing meme of "the script has gone out!" It's so so true. Yeah the companies were different, but they all had essentially an identical script, all corroborated by experts. In hindsight, it's a freaking miracle I ever broke out of it. It's a near-perfectly-sealed echo chamber. And now, as I'm scrolling through my past, it looks like a record of someone slowly being put to sleep. Episode after episode. Commute after commute. Day after day. Just thousands of hours of my life with headphones in, letting someone else narrate reality to me. And I'm sick with regret. Because I know that a part of me liked it. Like I was smarter, kinder, and more evolved because I just knew so much more, and was on the team of empathy! I was wrong. And I can’t rewind who I was in those years. But I’m writing this because I KNOW there are people still living in that trance. I talk to you (yes, you know who you are) often. And I know you think you're just “staying informed,” and I hear in your voice the moral superiority, the immediate reaction to take offense on behalf of some group or people... Please. Please wake up before you lose years of your life the way I did. Because one day you’ll look back and realize the biggest thing they stole from you wasn't just your time... They stole the truth.

@solviturium @HenMazzig No they aren't. Both Russian and Palestine are the aggressors who refuse to end the wars in their respective scenarios. You're argument entirely consists of making inaccurate comparisons and declaring yourself correct because you made a comparison.

It’s striking how often Israel’s 🇮🇱 founding year is used against it. The truth? Many countries younger than Israel exist today without controversy. No one argues that India’s 🇮🇳independence in 1947 makes it less legitimate, that Morocco 🇲🇦 lacks legitimacy because it became independent in 1956, or that Yemen 🇾🇪 shouldn’t exist because it was founded in 1990. These states are accepted as normal products of modern history, and no one questions their right to exist. Yet only Israel is told its existence is up for debate. If “youth” only disqualifies one country, the issue isn’t age. It’s who we’re talking about. Selective standards aren’t historical analysis. It’s a double standard.

@cremieuxrecueil Semi-related thing I've wondered about. Is the civil war between Daniel and Saul in the Bible the only time in human history where two armies of Jews fought each other? I can't think of any other time it happened, or any period/location where it could've happened.

Huh! Despite being 3.3% of the U.S. population at the time, Jews made up 5.2% of America's soldiers in World War One!
LiorLefineder@lefineder

@KirkegaardEmil @cremieuxrecueil In WW1, the US mobilized around 4.8 million soldiers; according to Julian Leavitt's work, likely 250k of them were Jewish (5.2%). At the time, the US Jewish population was around 3.3%, making them overrepresented by a factor of 1.6.

A man approached two young, visibly Jewish children playing video games and said, “Are you going to free Palestine?” before taking the console away from them. The children clearly didn’t speak English, but they tried to interact with him kindly. I can only hope that spared their innocent eyes from understanding the hatred being directed at them. Bullying Jewish children will not “Free Palestine.” Video: @mishtal

@aziz0nomics @IhabHassane I've both seen people share polls where the majority support hamas and polls where the majority do not support them. However, I do personally see the latter as more believable as people living under an authoritarian regime are scared to criticize the regime.

If you believe that all Palestinians support Hamas, you are wrong. In the latest poll from ISEP, Hamas had just 12.2% of support from voters, which would put them in third place. Chart via @IhabHassane

@JamesOKeefeIII Back in the 80s, McDonald's had complete control over the narrative in their hot coffee lawsuit. Even TIME Magazine and famous musicians were on their side. But in the present day- decades later- people now know that they were in the wrong. Eventually, the truth always wins.

@ShitpostRock I don't think Undertale quite meets the feeling of being the LOTR of video games because Undertale is drenched in irony while LOTR is defined by the lack of it. So I would say a game like Xenoblade Chronicles would be a better fit for the title.
