📢 New HYPER-AI research publication: "Reducing IoT Data for Highly Efficient Cloud Stora We are happy to share a new scientific contribution from our partner National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (#NKUA), developed within the scope of the HYPER-AI project and presented at the 16th International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies (ANT 2025). 🔍 The publication, “Reducing IoT Data for Highly Efficient Cloud Storage,” addresses one of the most persistent challenges in the #IoT ecosystem: how to manage vast, continuous streams of sensor data without overwhelming cloud storage and processing systems. To tackle this, Felix Safaridis, #EleftheriaKatsarou, Stathes Hadjiefthymiades propose an edge-based approach that transforms big #IoT data into compact, meaningful small data before it ever reaches the #cloud. Using reservoir sampling, the method produces statistically reliable synopses of incoming streams, forwarding them to cloud storage only when significant changes are detected. This ensures that the system maintains accuracy while dramatically reducing data volume. Tested on real IoT datasets from the shipping industry, the approach demonstrates that large reductions in storage footprint can be achieved without compromising the integrity or interpretability of the original data, a crucial capability for large-scale industrial IoT deployments.
