@docdanz007 And of course the fee review committee is the DHB - real conflict of interest there
English

@henrycooke This misinformation is becoming a problem because the groups dispersing it appear to be well funded and well organised. Unfortunately there isn’t much information available in terms that most people can understand to counter it

@NZDoctor_news @yourNZMA @CountryGPs @NZMAchair @TeOhuRata @RNZCGP @GPNZ3 In general there was very little mention of primary care in the Simpson report. Even less mention of rural health. Report Focus was on rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. That’s what’s great about the announced changes - The aspiration to do better at a community level
English

@NZDoctor_news @yourNZMA @CountryGPs @NZMAchair @TeOhuRata @RNZCGP @GPNZ3 To be fair there was little mention of General Practice too.

@charlie_psych @HelenPParker First there has to be the conversation. Often it doesn’t even get that far it seems

@MaxRashbrooke Certainly dont want to go to NHS model of 7 min GP appointments and only one health issue discussed.
English

@MaxRashbrooke There are just not enough GPs to meet demand. The GP model has to change too. I think you would very quickly get GPs on board if you could help them do better by their patients.
English

@GPNZ3 NO SURPRISES!!!!! Surely you are watching a different live stream to us!
English

So no surprises. Keen to learn more about the 4 four regional divisions of HNZ and how they will commission primary and community care services in their region.#NZHealthReform
English

@docdanz007 @WellSouth1 Wonder what is planned for the broken capitation model? I suspect the only thing that keeps GPs afloat financially is ACC
English

@HealthtekNZ From this it appears that “Localities” will be the new PHOs, possibly stripped of their governance role (which will come from higher up)? May not make so much difference to already locality based PHOs such as @WellSouth1 but cities with multiple PHOs will see the biggest change.
English

Promising start from @AndrewLittleMP on the #NZHealthReforms. Focus on primary/community care, minimisation of bureaucracy and duplication.
English

@docdanz007 @WellSouth1 PHOs in general have struggled for a role because of indirect funding (via DHB) and an over emphasis on compliance. Maybe localities will bring a more holistic view to health so that funding is tied to patient and not to a specific disease
English

@docdanz007 @WellSouth1 Im not sure how the localities will work at a granular level, but remember as well as the 4 localities we also have Maori Health Authority which will has commissioning rights.
English

@docdanz007 High level info...not much detail yet.

This worries me, in the absence of detail. Centralising the strategy, funding, procurement, IT, etc makes sense but over-centralisation of front end delivery of programmes goes against the (admittedly dead-in-the-water) Primary Healthcare Strategy of 15 yrs ago. #NZHealthReforms
English

@DrJinRussell You might not thank me when you see how many docs there are to read in there...its huge!
English

Very pleased to wake up to this news and eager to hear more detail. If the change enables real power to reduce health inequities, alignment of IT systems for collation of outpatient data, public health leadership, it’s a positive step. Finally, transformation from this government
Jason Walls@Jasonwalls92
This is one of, if not the, biggest shake-ups to New Zealand’s health sector in history. All DHBs will be replaced by one national agency - Health NZ. The Govt will create a new Māori Health Authority and there will be more focus on preventing negative health outcomes.
