July 8, 1099 -- Some 15,000 starving Christian soldiers begin the siege of Jerusalem by marching in a religious procession around the city as its Muslim defenders watch.

Gerald Ford is the only person to serve as U.S. president despite never appearing on a winning ticket. Prior to his presidency, the 1972 election had featured Richard Nixon & Spiro Agnew S presidential and vice presidential candidates, respectively. When Agnew resigned in 1973, Ford became Vice President and when Nixon resigned in 1974 Ford ascended to the Presidency.
