Our region needs safe, earthquake resilient connections. The existing Interstate Bridge’s foundations are composed of timber piles set in sandy soil. In a major earthquake, the bridge would likely be substantially damaged, potentially beyond repair.

What are some of the benefits of a new Interstate Bridge? Our program will provide ongoing tangible economic benefits across the region through more reliable travel times, reduced congestion, improved safety and better access to goods and services.

The Interstate Bridge is a vital link on the I-5 freight corridor and part of a critical national trade route. Over $132 million in commodity value crosses the bridge daily. Freight tonnage in this region is expected to double by 2040.
